Fibroids can recur even after treatment because the factors that caused them may still be present.
Common reasons fibroids recur include:
High estrogen levels or hormonal imbalance
Family history (genetics)
Being overweight or obese
High blood pressure
Starting treatment when fibroids are still small and prone to regrowth
Removal of fibroids without removing the uterus (myomectomy)
What you can do:
Maintain a healthy weight through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.
Reduce excessive intake of processed foods, sugary drinks, and red meat.
Manage blood pressure if it is elevated.
Have regular follow-up scans with your gynecologist to monitor for recurrence.
Discuss hormonal treatments or other medical options with your doctor if appropriate.
Fibroids are a common condition and recurrence does not necessarily mean something was done wrong.
