💙 BLUERIBBONER OF THE WEEK: GLADYS ATAMBO

Some call her Gladys. Others Atambo, Gee or Mokeira. Lately, however, everyone seems to have settled on HR. Your friendly neighbourhood HR, apparently.

An HR professional by day and an athlaholic by weekend, Gladys wears plenty of other hats: mum, sister, prayer warrior, daughter, aunt, nemesis…you get the point. Add certified workplace counsellor, certified professional mediator, coffeeholic and, of course, certified BlueRibboner to that collection.

Her motivation to move? “I wish I could say, father run, mother run, I run.” But for Gladys, it’s the post-run vibes and the electrolytes za kuambia mwili pole na asante. Those are what get her through the horror of the first few kilometres, when the legs are protesting and the meaning of life is under serious review.

Then comes the clearer head - once she’s stopped fighting for her life, naturally. As for her age? “Who’s counting? Age doesn’t matter unless you’re a cheese.”

Gladys describes Blue Ribbon events as the gold standard: “Hands down, kalamba down!” The camaraderie, laughter, AWESOME merch, na mlo have brought pizzazz and razzmatazz to her weekends. In her own words: “It has added life to my life.” 💙

FROM OUR DESK 🗿Gladys is one of the highlights of our events. She and her group leave when everyone else has left. Entry fee maximised, vibes exhausted, venue almost handed back to the owners. 😂

She’s also the only person who can confidently approach the RD for an extra slot with:

“Nakisogelea kwa taadhima kuu meza ya heshima ya Mkurugenzi wa Mbio, ndugu yangu wa dhati na mlezi wangu. Kwa moyo uliojawa majuto, roho iliyotawaliwa na unyenyekevu, na ulimi uliolainishwa kwa staha…kukuarifu kwamba nilikosa nafasi ya kushiriki katika Mbio za Nyarington.”

All that ceremony just to say: “RD, ongeza slot moja.” 🤣 Needless to say, RD dies. Every time.

🌸 Flowers for you, Gladys - for showing up, staying on, bringing the laughter and making this community richer with your presence. You say Blue Ribbon has added life to your life. We can confidently say you’ve added life to ours. 💙

💙 Food Tip Friday | Prostate Health Edition 🥑🥜

Today we’re feeding more than our muscles! 😄

Your prostate deserves some nutritional attention too. These five foods provide nutrients that support overall health.

Eat better. Know your risk. Get checked. 💙

Remember, healthy eating supports your health, but doesn’t replace prostate cancer screening.

They say, “The customer is always right.” At Blue Ribbon, sometimes we seriously question this theory. 🤡

Take, for example, the customer who recently manipulated our Race Director’s photo and confidently suggested that THIS is how RD should show up for the next Sweater Weather Run. 😂

Imagine. RD is busy giving serious race briefs - routes, safety, hydration, timings, nini nini - meanwhile some of you are not listening because you’re mentally choosing which colour boshori will bring out his eyes. 😭

Surely. Is the customer always right? We are gathering evidence to the contrary. 🗿

Anyway, during this Customer Service Week, we appreciate every single one of you who runs, walks, registers, complains, suggests, heckles RD and keeps this wonderfully chaotic community alive.

We have no discounts to offer.
No free merchandise.
No free sweets.

Just laughs, vibes and occasionally questionable customer service. 💙

Happy Customer Service Week from Blue Ribbon!

*Please continue being customers. We need you.* 😄

💙 Move Better Monday | Issue 014

Balance is one of those things we rarely think about…until the body starts negotiating. 😄

As we get older, a little balance work helps us stay steady, confident and independent - whether we’re running, walking or simply living life.

Better balance today. More adventures tomorrow.

💙 40+. STILL MOVING. STILL SHOWING UP.

And that’s a wrap on the 2nd Annual 40+ VeteRun! Today wasn’t really about 15KM. It was about celebrating something we should never take for granted - the ability to keep moving as we grow older.

Past 40, movement is a superpower. We run. We walk. We lift. We hike. We stretch. We keep showing up; not necessarily to prove that we are still young 😄, but because movement gives us strength, mobility, independence, community and hopefully many more active years ahead.

And because September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the 40+ VeteRun also gives us an important opportunity to remind men - particularly as we get older - to pay attention to our prostate health, know our risk and have the conversations we sometimes avoid.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our second edition. 💙

Two years in, we can officially say it: the 40+ VeteRun has earned its place as a firm fixture on our September calendar.

Every September, we shall celebrate movement beyond 40 while keeping men’s health firmly in the conversation.

Until next year…

KEEP MOVING. YOUR AGE IS NOT YOUR BRAKE. IT IS YOUR REMINDER. 💙

Big up Oak Place Conference & Training Centre 🤗

💙 RESULTS REQUIRE REPETITION.

Our PROST8 September Virtual Walkathon 2026 is now down to less than a week to go. For the past 24 days, participants have been doing something remarkably simple: showing up, moving, and doing it again.

And perhaps there’s a lesson there beyond the kilometres.

Men’s health works much the same way.
One conversation is good. Have another.
One healthy choice is good. Make another.
Knowing your prostate cancer risk is good. Act on that knowledge.
Had a health check? Keep up the habit.

Better health is rarely built by one dramatic gesture. It comes from the small things we are prepared to repeat.

September may be Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, but caring about men’s health shouldn’t end when September does.

Results require repetition. Do it again. 💙

Have a PROstate of Mind.

💙 BLUERIBBONER OF THE WEEK: DR. DANIEL MURAGE

🏃🏾‍♂️ Why do I run?
“I firmly believe that movement is life - whether it’s running, walking, cycling, hiking or any other sport. Beyond the physical and wellness benefits, movement teaches lessons like consistency and endurance that we can apply to every aspect of life. Hence my LinkedIn moniker, ‘The Leader Who Runs and Learns.’”

💙 Why Blue Ribbon?
“For me, it’s the purpose behind the organisation and its founders’ passion for championing prostate cancer awareness in our society.

I also love the great vibes in the community, the challenging elevations during the runs, and the beautifully customised medals and T-shirts.”

Daniel’s running journey was recently featured by CFO East Africa, where he talks about running, leadership and learning to finish what he starts.

FROM OUR DESK 😎
If there’s a guy who has mastered the recreational-running poker face, it’s Dan.Start line: quiet. Reserved. Minding his business. Trails: BEAST MODE. 😂

Not flashy. Not making noise. Just that annoyingly consistent step - and somehow moving deceptively fast while looking like he’s doing absolutely nothing.

And here’s a little Blue Ribbon trivia: Dan is one of the very few people who have completed ALL SIX Coffee Runs so far. ☕🏃🏾‍♂️

We’ll give you one guess what his favourite beverage might be. 😂

Flowers to you, Dan. 💐💙
Keep running. Keep learning. Keep showing us how consistency quietly gets the job done.

💙 Move Better Monday | Issue 013

Core strength isn’t about chasing a six-pack. It’s about giving your body a stronger, steadier base for walking, running and everyday movement.

A little core work goes a long way. 💪🏾

💙 FROM VIRTUAL KILOMETRES TO REAL TRAILS - and real impact.

In May 2026, we moved from wherever we were during the Pauline Kabaka Memorial Virtual Run 2026. On Sunday, 8th November 2026, we finally come together in person at Ngong Forest Sanctuary, Ngong Rd. - running, walking and showing up for girls who deserve the opportunity to remain in school.

This is more than a run. It is a direct CSR initiative by Blue Ribbon Initiative Kenya, supporting financially disadvantaged girls at Bishop Gatimu Kinyona Girls Secondary School with school fees and essential supplies, including exercise books, soap and sanitary pads.
