Missed your periods? Don't assume it's menopause!
A real-life reminder 💗
A woman in her 40s came to the hospital with:
A growing tummy
Pelvic pressure
Feeling a mass in her lower abdomen
She thought she had fibroids because she hadn't had her periods for a long time.
The ultrasound revealed something unexpected...
👶 She was 21 weeks pregnant!
What can we learn?
✅ Missing periods does not always mean menopause.
✅ If you are sexually active, pregnancy is still possible until menopause is confirmed.
✅ If you notice:
A growing abdomen
Pelvic pressure
Breast changes
Nausea
Unusual abdominal movements..visit a healthcare provider for evaluation.
Early diagnosis helps you receive the right care—for you and your baby.

"I thought I was in menopause... until I discovered I was over five months pregnant."

Recently, I cared for a woman in her 40s who had stopped having her periods for 2 yrs. Like many women would, she believed she had reached menopause.

When her abdomen started enlarging and she felt pressure in her pelvis, she thought she might have a fibroid or another pelvic growth.

An ultrasound told a completely different story—she was pregnant.
Her emotions were mixed. There was surprise, joy, uncertainty, and concern about how her family would receive the news.

What can we learn from this?
🌸 Pregnancy is still possible before menopause is confirmed. A woman is considered to have reached menopause only after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, with no other medical explanation.

🌸 Changes such as abdominal enlargement, pelvic pressure, nausea, breast changes, or feeling movement in the abdomen should not be ignored—even if you think pregnancy is unlikely.

🌸 If your periods stop unexpectedly and you are sexually active, it's important to seek medical evaluation. A pregnancy test and, when appropriate, an ultrasound can help determine the cause.

🌸 There is no age at which you should simply assume you cannot become pregnant without medical confirmation.

Every woman's story is unique. Seeking care early can provide answers, reassurance, and the support needed to make informed decisions.
