URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS (UTIs) IN CHILDREN
“Is your child having fever, pain when passing urine, or going to the toilet more often than usual? It could be more than just a minor issue…”
WHAT IS A UTI?
A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) happens when bacteria enter the urinary system. It’s common in children and can become serious if not treated early.
WATCH OUT FOR THESE SIGNS:
• Fever (sometimes the only sign in young children)
• Pain or burning when passing urine
• Frequent urination or urgency
• Lower abdominal pain
• Vomiting or poor feeding (especially in infants)
• Bedwetting in a previously dry child
In babies: irritability, poor feeding, or unexplained fever may be the only clues!
WHAT CAUSES UTIs?
• Poor hygiene
• Holding urine for too long
• Constipation
• Structural urinary problems (in some children)
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
✔️ Seek medical care early
✔️ Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids
✔️ Encourage regular toilet use
✔️ Practice proper hygiene (front to back wiping for girls)
TREATMENT WORKS!
UTIs are easily treated with antibiotics, early diagnosis is key to preventing complications.
DON’T IGNORE THE SIGNS
Untreated UTIs can lead to kidney infections and long-term problems.
