At the celebration, Principal Secretary Mary Muriuki recognised CHS’s significant contribution to Kenya’s health sector, highlighting the progress made in the fight against TB, including a 46% reduction in TB incidence and a 58% reduction in TB deaths between 2015 and 2024.
But as Kenya looks to the next chapter, the PS challenged CHS and the wider health sector to go deeper into communities and shift from a predominantly curative approach towards prevention, health promotion and basic risk communication.
Her message was a powerful reminder that sometimes the greatest impact begins with the simplest things, communicating clearly, helping communities understand risk, promoting healthy practices and ensuring people know how to protect themselves and when to seek care.
As CHS marks 15 years of impact, the call is clear: go deeper into communities, communicate better, prevent earlier and ensure every programme creates lasting impact.

Naomi, a healthcare worker’s story brought the meaning of 15 years of impact to life. From entering the health sector with limited knowledge of HIV and TB to becoming a more confident and empowered provider, she reflected on how CHS’s mentorship and capacity building transformed both her practice and the community she serves.
“If a building has to go very high, the foundation has to be strong.”
For her, CHS has been that foundation, building the knowledge, confidence and capacity that continue to strengthen care long after the initial support.

WHO’s Dr. Boston Zimba reflected on CHS’s 15-year journey and its contribution to Kenya’s health sector, from HIV and TB to maternal and child health, immunisation, public health emergency preparedness, noncommunicable diseases and quality of care.
The speech recognised CHS as a trusted partner in translating evidence and global health guidance into practical, locally relevant solutions that respond to the realities of communities and strengthen health systems.
As Kenya looks ahead, the call is clear: sustain the gains, strengthen partnerships and continue innovating to address emerging health challenges and advance the country’s health goals.

In Kiambu County, CHS pioneered Kenya’s first integrated service delivery model for TB, lung health, malnutrition and mental illness.
In just 13 months, the Vumbua Project reached 165,237 people, conducted 135,500 integrated screenings and contributed to a 31% increase in TB notifications. Paediatric TB case finding also improved from 16% to 19%, while thousands of new cases of TB, asthma, COPD, post TB lung disease, mental health conditions and nutritional disorders were identified.
The model shows how bringing services together at primary care level can support earlier diagnosis, comprehensive care and better outcomes for communities.

Since 2010, CHS-supported interventions have helped prevent HIV infection among 59,462 babies, connecting antenatal care, treatment, early infant testing and community follow-up.
In Siaya County, mother-to-child transmission declined from 21% to 4.3%, while new HIV infections among children aged 0 to 14 years fell by 92%.

Fifteen years ago, CHS began with a focused commitment to strengthening health services in Kenya. Today, that journey has grown into a national story of public health impact, innovation and partnership.
From supporting 29 health facilities in Central Kenya to operating across the country, CHS has worked alongside The Ministry of Health, County Governments and partners to strengthen health systems and advance global health targets.
With more than USD 279 million in global health funding managed and technical assistance provided to six African nations, CHS’s journey shows what is possible when local action meets a shared global vision.
As we celebrate CHS at 15, we honour the people, partnerships and purpose behind the impact, and look ahead to the next chapter of healthier communities and stronger health systems.
