𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 “𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗽” 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗸𝗲.

It may look fine for a second—but give it a moment, and it will explode.

Not because they’re dramatic.

But because pressure—𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹—𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼.

And when it’s not released with care, it erupts in chaos.

The mistake many people make is thinking anger is bad.

Anger is not bad. It’s a signal.

It’s what we do with it that becomes harmful—or healing.

As a psychologist, I’ve learned: angry people don’t need to be shut down.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲.

Here are a few practical ways to offer that release (for yourself or someone else):

𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱. A quiet room. A walk. A solo drive. Anger cools in open space.

𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿. Often, it’s grief. Betrayal. Disrespect. A boundary that was crossed too many times.

𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Try: “I can see this really hurt you. Want to talk or just breathe?”

That’s not enabling. That’s emotional first-aid.

𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲. Boxing bag. Jog. Cold shower. Breathwork. Anger needs the body involved—it’s not just mental.

Don’t meet fire with fire. Meet it with presence.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀.

Some people were taught to express anger through violence.

Others were raised to bury it until they broke down.

But both responses are a result of never being taught how to honour anger without being owned by it.

So, next time someone’s boiling over, don’t shame them into silence.

Give them a moment to breathe.

To pause.

To be human.

Because sometimes, the most therapeutic thing isn’t advice.
