🌍 Healthcare in Qatar vs Kenya: My Perspective & What We Must Get Right
I’ve been reflecting on healthcare systems, and the comparison between Qatar and Kenya highlights both progress and opportunity—especially with Kenya’s shift to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
🇶🇦 Qatar
Qatar’s system is structured, well-funded, and predictable. Patients follow a clear pathway from primary care to specialists, supported by strong digital systems and employer-sponsored insurance. Access to consultants is efficient, especially in private care.
🇰🇪 Kenya (Current Reality)
Kenya is transitioning to SHA to expand universal health coverage. The focus on primary healthcare and structured funding is a strong step forward. However, the system is still in transition, and many people are adjusting.
⚠️ Key Gaps I See
- Implementation is inconsistent
- Public awareness of SHA is still low
- Infrastructure gaps remain across regions
- Healthcare workers are stretched
- Out-of-pocket costs still affect many
🧠Navigation Matters
In Qatar, the referral system works.
In Kenya, many patients still bypass primary care, leading to congestion in higher-level facilities.
👉 Strengthening primary care in practice—not just policy—is critical.
đź’ł Insurance Reality
Qatar’s employer-based insurance ensures broad access.
Kenya’s SHA has great potential, but needs trust, clarity, and smooth ex*****on.
👩‍⚕️ Workforce
Kenya has strong professionals, but retention and distribution remain challenges.
👉 Supporting healthcare workers must be a priority.

🔎 What Kenya Should Focus On

✔️ Clear and enforced referral systems
✔️ Effective rollout of SHA
✔️ Investment in infrastructure
✔️ Better support for healthcare workers

đź’ˇ Final Thought
For me, the difference comes down to ex*****on. Kenya has the right direction with SHA—what matters now is making it work for every citizen.
