Clearer Horizons 👓

In just three days in Talek, 407 people had their eyes checked and 196 received glasses — helping children read, parents work, and community members go about life with clearer vision.

Along the way, we also shared simple ways to protect our eyes from dust, smoke and the strong Mara sun.

A big thank you to Good Vision Kenya and Community Health Partners–Talek for making it possible. And to everyone who came through — thank you for trusting us with your sight.

Better sight – Better life.

Hundreds of people have shown up at Kituro Health Centre in Baringo County to honour our invitation and access eye care that can help protect and improve their vision.

GoodVision Kenya Country Director Benson Ngure, together with the area MCA, . Ayub Kibet, is present to support the team and engage with the community as the camp continues.

Located in Baringo County, Kituro serves communities where access to specialised eye care can be limited. This eye camp is helping bring essential services closer to residents, making it easier for people to identify and address vision problems before they affect their work, learning and daily lives.

Residents are currently receiving eye screenings, cataract assessments, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, affordable eyeglasses and referrals. Eligible patients are also being supported with cataract surgery.

If you or someone you know needs eye care, visit us today and share this message with family, friends and neighbours who may benefit.

Strengthening partnerships for better eye health!

Our team recently sat down with Baraka Health Net to review our ongoing partnership and the eye-care services we provide together at their clinics in Mathare and Athi River.

We also talked about something exciting on the horizon bringing tele-refraction services to Kilifi County! This means more communities will soon have access to quality eye exams and affordable glasses, closer to home.

Grateful to Mercy Kamau (CEO) and Perpetual Bulemi (Chief Administration Officer) from Baraka Health Net for a productive meeting, and proud of our GoodVision Kenya team Cecilia Mukami, Diana Langat, James Mwangi, and Calistus Mashinga — for driving this partnership forward.

Here's to bringing clear vision closer to the people who need it most! 🙌

We travelled to Likoni in Mombasa County and returned to a community we first visited last year.

Likoni Women CBO supports women, young people and older persons through table banking. After our first donation eye camp with the group, we saw how much the community needed accessible eye-care services. This year, GoodVision Kenya returned to fully sponsor another camp.

The community showed up in large numbers, with some people bringing their entire families. Many had been living with eye problems but could not afford to visit a clinic. When money is limited, families are sometimes forced to choose between buying food and seeking medical care.

When Esther Renchi, the chairwoman of Likoni Women CBO, shared the news that GoodVision Kenya was returning and that the eye screenings, eyeglasses and eye drops would be donated, the community was very happy.

By the end of the camp, more community members had received eyeglasses than during our visit last year. Seeing people walk away wearing their new glasses made the whole day worthwhile. As we left Likoni, we could still see some of them along the road, proudly wearing their glasses.

We came back because the need was still there—and we left reminded of what a simple pair of glasses can mean to someone who has gone without one.

Yesterday, we travelled through the hilly landscape of Kwale County to Magombani Comprehensive School, where community members were waiting to receive essential eye-care services.

We were warmly welcomed by Carol Mathenge, the donors’ trustee in Kenya. Carol expressed how happy and appreciative she was of the work GoodVision Kenya had done for the community members who attended the camp.

We began the day with a basic eye-health talk, sharing simple ways of caring for the eyes and explaining the importance of seeking help when one experiences changes in vision. Those who already wear glasses also learned how to properly clean, handle and safely store their eyeglasses.

Our team then screened over 100 community members and dispensed donated eyeglasses to those who needed them. Each pair represented more than clearer sight, it meant being able to read, work and carry out everyday activities with greater ease and also eliminating avoidable eye loss.

This donation camp was organised by GoodVision Kenya in partnership with members of Rotary club in Germany. By bringing these services directly to Magombani, we helped reduce the distance community members would otherwise have travelled to access eye care and also increase the quality of their lives.

From the hills of Kwale, one message remained clear: everyone deserves access to quality eye care, and where the roads end, GoodVision starts

In the sparsely populated areas of Nyeri, homes are often far apart, and reaching a health facility can mean walking or travelling a long distance.

But when our team arrived at Kids Alive Dispensary, community members still came, each carrying a different story about their eyesight.

Some had lived with blurred vision, sensitivity to sunlight or persistent eye discomfort for so long that they believed it was normal. Others had simply learned to adjust: moving closer to see, avoiding bright light or accepting that their vision was changing without knowing why.

For many, this camp was an opportunity to finally understand what they had been experiencing.

By bringing eye screening and education closer to the community, we were able to start important conversations about eye health, the effects of prolonged exposure to sunlight and why changes in vision should not be ignored.

At GoodVision Kenya, we believe that distance should never stand between a person and the care they need. Sometimes, bringing eye care closer is the first step towards helping someone realise that they do not have to keep living with an eye condition and thinking it is normal. 💙

Everyone deserves to see clearly—without discrimination. 👓

At GK Prison Nanyuki, we were warmly welcomed by Deputy Officer-in-Charge Mr. David Atama, who shared a message that reflected the heart of our visit:

“Service to the community is service to God.”

Working together with the prison administration, we started with an eye health talk on caring for the eyes and the importance of screening. We then screened 149 inmates and distributed 123 pairs of eyeglasses to both the inmates and prison wardens.

People in correctional facilities remain part of our community. They deserve dignity, care and access to essential health services. Clear vision can help an inmate read, learn, work and participate more confidently in rehabilitation programmes.

At GoodVision Kenya, we do not choose who deserves clear vision. We work hand in hand with communities and institutions to ensure that no one is left behind.

Near the slopes of Mount Kenya lies Kambuirini Dispensary, serving a sparsely populated community where many residents must walk long distances to access healthcare.

When our team arrived for an eye camp following the signing of our MOU with the County Government of Nyeri, we found a group of community members already waiting for us. Despite the distance, people turned up in large numbers eager to have their eyes examined, understand their diagnoses and learn more about their eye health.

For many, it was their first time discovering that the difficulties they had lived with were signs of an eye condition. Several had experienced symptoms such as sensitivity to light but had come to accept the discomfort as a normal part of life.

This reflects a wider reality in many rural communities: people often live with changes in their vision for years without realizing that something is wrong or that help may be available.

The residents were grateful that eye care services had reached their community and expressed their hope that we would continue returning regularly. Their response reminded us why taking services closer to underserved communities matters. No one should be left to live with an undiagnosed eye condition simply because healthcare is too far away.

Through our partnership with the County Government of Nyeri, GoodVision Kenya remains committed to bringing accessible eye care closer to the communities that need it most.
