CASE SCENARIO-OBSTRUCTIVE JAUNDICE
93yr old with Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes)
When jaundice is due to an obstruction in the flow of bile:
His stools are pale
His urine is dark brown
His skin itches
This symptoms are more marked when there is a complete obstruction.
An OLDER patient that has a steadily deepening and usually painless jaundice MAY have a tumour causing the obstruction.
So in obstructive jaundice, you may weigh the evidence of tumour,gallstones or any other potential causes.
