This International Youth Day, we’re celebrating youth champions from Kakamega, Nakuru and Nairobi.

Through the Delivering Innovations in Self-care (DISC) project, Belyne, Whitney and Felix are helping young people make informed reproductive health choices and connect them to quality confidential care.

Their experiences are different, but their aspirations are the same: healthier young people who feel informed, confident and able to shape their futures.

Today, we celebrate Belyne, Whitney, Felix and the many youth champions who are turning that aspiration into action.

inSupply Health hosted seven fourth-year Bachelor of Pharmacy students from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) for an eight-week field attachment under the Workforce Development Project, funded by the Gates Foundation.

The attachment combined Health Supply Chain Micromodules, virtual and face-to-face learning, workplace shadowing and mentorship. Through weekly rotations, the students gained practical exposure to data use, project implementation, stakeholder engagement and the systems that support commodity availability.

The experience also gave students a broader perspective on career opportunities beyond traditional pharmacy practice, including public health logistics, pharmaceutical supply chain management and health systems strengthening

One student shared:
“This field attachment at inSupply Health shifted my career focus from traditional clinical pharmacy toward global health logistics and consultancy.”

We are proud to have supported these seven emerging professionals and grateful to MUHAS for the partnership. Their feedback will help us strengthen future cohorts and continue connecting academic learning with practical experience.

Strengthening data-driven supply chain performance in Isiolo County.

We conducted an IMPACTT Approach re-sensitization training for the new sub-counties of Oldonyiro, Cherab, and Sericho in Isiolo County.

The IMPACTT Approach, which stands for Information Mobilized for Performance Analysis and Continuous Transformation Teams, supports teams to use data to identify challenges, make informed decisions, and drive continuous improvement in supply chain performance.

The sessions focused on:

⚫Building strong, multidisciplinary IMPACTT teams.
⚫Using data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
⚫Applying Kotter’s 8-Step Change Management process to support sustained change.
⚫Defining clear roles, recognition plans, and strategies for sustainable performance improvement.

The IMPACTT Approach supports more responsive and resilient health supply chains while strengthening the capacity of teams to turn data into action,

inSupply Health joined the Ministry of Health, Kenya, the Council of Governors Kenya, the Beginnings Fund, and fellow implementing partners at the signing of the Cooperative Agreement to accelerate maternal and newborn health in Kenya.

The partnership will support the implementation of Kenya's Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan, unlocking an USD 80 million investment over the next five years to strengthen maternal and newborn health across 21 high-burden counties and nearly 200 high-volume health facilities, reaching close to six million women and newborns by 2030.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed that this partnership is anchored on a country-led approach, aligning partner investments with national priorities to strengthen government systems and deliver sustainable health outcomes.

inSupply Health will contribute its expertise in strengthening health systems alongside a consortium of partners and look forward to working alongside the Ministry of Health, county governments, healthcare workers and communities, to help ensure that every mother and every newborn have access to quality care when they need it most.

Safe, quality pharmacy-led family planning services are key to strengthening primary health care and expanding equitable access to reproductive health services.

This was the focus of a panel discussion on “Breaking Barriers to Equity: A Pharmacist-Led Market Access Framework for Scaling Injectable Family Planning in Community Pharmacies” held during the 22nd Kenya Pharmaceutical Association Annual Scientific Conference, where Dr. Wilfred Ochieng, Director of Pharmacy Practice at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), outlined the regulatory measures supporting the safe delivery of injectable contraceptive services through community pharmacies.

Dr. Ochieng said the 7th Edition Kenya National Family Planning Guidelines marks a significant milestone by recognizing trained pharmacists and pharmaceutical technologists as providers of injectable contraceptive services, creating new opportunities to improve access to family planning closer to communities.

He noted that PPB is implementing this expanded scope of practice through a robust regulatory framework anchored on provider competency, compliant pharmacy premises, accountability and continuous regulatory oversight to ensure women receive safe, quality and patient-centred care.

He further highlighted PPB’s efforts to strengthen pharmacovigilance through digital reporting platforms, mobile applications and continuous capacity building for pharmacy personnel to improve the reporting of adverse events and enhance medicine safety.

The discussion reaffirmed the growing role of community pharmacies in advancing primary health care by expanding access to quality family planning services while upholding the highest standards of patient safety, quality and professional practice.

It's been two days of meaningful conversations, from welcoming the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, at our booth to today's engaging panel discussion. We look forward to continuing the conversations and partnerships that are shaping the future of pharmacy practice and primary health care.

Leadership is key to strengthening health systems.

When Tanga City Hospital introduced the IMPACT Teams approach in 2024, routine monitoring generated valuable insights that informed timely leadership decisions to strengthen implementation, accountability, and supply chain performance.

The results speak for themselves:
✅Health commodity availability increased from 81.4% to above 95%, meeting the national target.
✅Laboratory commodity overstock declined from 19.96% to 9.72%.
✅Better use of data also translated into better patient outcomes.
