🌱 Green Thursday: Save the Planet with Us! 🌱

πŸŒΎπŸ‘© The Women Who Feed Cambodia Are on the Front Line of Climate Change.

In rural Cambodia, women are the backbone of their families and communities. They grow the food, fetch the water, care for the children, and keep the household running every single day. πŸ™

But climate change is making their lives harder than ever.
🌧️ Floods destroy crops and contaminate water sources.
β˜€οΈ Droughts dry up the fields they depend on to feed their families.
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Women and girls walk further and further to find clean water.

And yet rural women are rarely included in the decisions that affect them most.

At Pet Yeiy Chi Health Center, we believe that healthy communities start with healthy women. We are committed to reaching women in rural areas with the care, information, and support they deserve. πŸ’™

See a woman working hard in her community today? She deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. ❀️

Let's talk about HIV, with facts, not fear. πŸ”΄

HIV affects thousands of people in Cambodia. But thanks to better information and treatment, people living with HIV can lead long, healthy lives. Understanding HIV is how we protect ourselves and support each other.

πŸ” What is HIV?
HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, the body's natural defence against illness. If left untreated, it can progress to AIDS, a stage where the body can no longer fight infections. With proper treatment, however, most people with HIV never reach this stage.

πŸ”„ How is HIV transmitted?
- Unprotected sexual contact
- Sharing needles or syringes
- From mother to child during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding

HIV is NOT transmitted by hugging, shaking hands, sharing food, coughing, or mosquito bites.

⚠️ Signs and symptoms
Many people with HIV have no symptoms for years. When they appear, early signs may include:
- Fever, fatigue, or night sweats that don't go away
- Unexplained weight loss
- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck

The only way to know for sure is to get tested.

πŸ’Š Living with HIV today
With antiretroviral treatment (ART), people living with HIV can have an undetectable viral load, meaning they cannot transmit the virus to others and can live a full, healthy life. Treatment is available and accessible. An HIV diagnosis is not a death sentence.

πŸ’¬ People living with HIV deserve respect, care, and support, not stigma. If you or someone you know wants to get tested or learn more, come and see us at the Battambang Health Center. Everything is confidential. πŸ™

🌸 Feel-Good Friday πŸŒ—

Do you use your phone in bed before sleeping? πŸ“±πŸŒ™ It may be harming your health more than you think.

Many of us scroll through our phones right before bed, it feels relaxing, but our brain experiences the opposite. The blue light emitted by screens tricks the brain into thinking it is still daytime, blocking the production of melatonin, the hormone that helps us fall asleep. 😴

βœ… Simple habits for better sleep
- Put your phone away at least 30 minutes before bed
- Keep your phone out of the bedroom if possible
- Replace scrolling with reading, or calm breathing

Good sleep is not a luxury it is a foundation of good health. 🌿

🌾 Cambodian rice has a fever and it can't sweat it out

Cambodia is home to hundreds of traditional rice varieties some cultivated for over 2,000 years, perfectly adapted to local soils, seasons, and monsoon patterns. But climate change is making them fail.

The problem isn't just scorching days. It's warm nights. When nighttime temperatures stay too high during flowering, rice plants can't properly pollinate. Grains don't fill. Harvests shrink. Centuries of agricultural knowledge passed from grandmother to grandchild is suddenly not enough.

Losing these varieties doesn't just mean lower yields. It means losing irreplaceable genetic diversity the very insurance policy that could help us adapt food systems to an uncertain future.

Should we be doing more to preserve traditional crop varieties? πŸ‘‡

πŸ₯✨ A Day in the Life at Pey Yeiy Chi Health Center ✨πŸ₯

We'd love to take you behind the scenes and show you what a real day looks like here at Pey Yeiy Chi! πŸ“Έβ€οΈ

One of the things we're most proud of at our center is our commitment to work-life balance. We do our best to adapt working hours so that our staff can be present for their families which means you will often spot little ones running around the hallways, bringing extra smiles (and energy!) to our days. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ’›

And of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible heart of our volunteers. A very special mention goes to Ignacio and LucΓa, who give their time and dedication every single day supporting Chamrom and making a real difference in the lives of the people we care for. πŸ™ŒπŸŒŸ

Stay tuned, over these pictures we will be sharing a closer look at everything that happens here: the work, the laughter, the challenges, and the moments that remind us why we do this. πŸ’ͺ

Do you know what Type 2 Diabetes is? 🩸

Type 2 Diabetes is one of the most common health conditions in Cambodia and many people don't even know they have it.

πŸ” What is it?
Our body needs insulin to turn the sugar from food into energy. In Type 2 Diabetes, the body doesn't use insulin properly. This causes sugar to build up in the blood, which over time can seriously damage the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves.

⚠️ Warning signs to watch for
Feeling very thirsty or hungry, even after eating
Frequent urination, especially at night
Slow healing of wounds or cuts
Tingling or numbness in hands or feet

🎯 Who is at risk?
People who are overweight or eat a lot of sugary or processed food. Those who do little physical activity

βœ… The good news, it can be prevented and controlled!
- Eat more vegetables, fruits
- Reduce sugary drinks, white rice in excess, and fried food
- Stay physically active, even a 30-minute walk each day helps

πŸ’¬ If you have any of these symptoms or want to know your blood sugar level, come visit us at the Battambang Health Center.

🌸 Feel-Good Friday πŸŒ—

Do you compare your life to what you see on social media? πŸ“± You are not alone.

Scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and suddenly feeling like your life isn't enough is something many people experience every day. This is called social comparison and when it becomes constant, it seriously affects our mental health.

We see the best moments of other people's lives and compare them to our own everyday reality. But what we see online is never the full picture. πŸ’™

βœ… What helps
- Limit screen time, especially before bed
- Unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about yourself
- Focus on your own progress, not others' results

Your life has value that no photo can capture. 🌿 Mental health is health πŸ™

🐟 The lake that breathes is losing its rhythm

Every year, TonlΓ© Sap Lake in Cambodia does something extraordinary: it reverses its flow, doubles in size, and floods the surrounding forests, creating one of the most productive freshwater fisheries on Earth.

That ancient rhythm is now breaking down. Rising temperatures and disrupted monsoons are shrinking the flood pulse. Less water means fewer fish. And fewer fish means less food and less income for the millions of Cambodians who depend on the lake.

For communities where fish accounts for up to 70% of daily protein, this is not a distant environmental concern. It's happening now, in kitchens and fishing boats across the Mekong basin.

Let's fight together against climate change! 🌱

Today we want to talk about YOU! Yes, Cambodian people πŸ‡°πŸ‡ and why travelers never forget the Cambodian people

Ask any traveler who has visited Cambodia what surprised them most and almost none of them will say the temples.

They will say the people.

πŸ˜„ Cambodians consistently rank among the warmest and most welcoming people in Southeast Asia. Strangers greet you with a genuine smile. Locals go out of their way to help not because it's their job, but because it's simply who they are.

Here's what foreigners love and Cambodians know it's true πŸ‘‡

πŸ™ The Sampeah: that gentle bow with hands pressed together says more than any handshake ever could.

😊 The unbeatable smile: Cambodians smile through hardship in a way that humbles every visitor.

🍚 Food as love: offering food is an act of care. Refusing it? Almost impossible, it's served with too much heart.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Family first, always: three generations under one roof is normal. And it's a strength, not a compromise.

Despite everything this country has been through, Cambodians carry a resilience and warmth that the world could learn from.

That's not a small thing. That's something to be genuinely proud of. πŸ‡°πŸ‡βœ¨

πŸ’›βš‘ Yellow Monday | Energy Monday | Learning Monday πŸ’›βš‘

Tuberculosis (TB) is still a serious health concern in Cambodia, but the good news is: it is preventable and curable.

🦠 What is TB?
TB is an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs and spreads through the air when a person with active TB coughs, sneezes, or speaks.

⚠️ Common symptoms:
Cough lasting more than 2 weeks
Fever and night sweats
Weight loss
Feeling tired or weak
Chest pain or coughing up blood

πŸ₯ Why early detection matters:
Getting tested early can save your life and protect your family.

πŸ’Š Treatment is effective:
With the right medication taken regularly for several months, TB can be completely cured.

🀝 Protect your community:
Cover your mouth when coughing
Ensure good ventilation at home
Encourage loved ones to get checked if they have symptoms

πŸ’› Let’s stay informed, support each other, and build a healthier Cambodia together.
