part 2!

💤 Comment NAP and I’ll send you the full episode.

Your kid is bouncing off the walls at 7 p.m. and you’re thinking: how are they not tired?

When adults don’t get enough sleep, we drain. Slow, foggy, flat. When kids don’t get enough, they don’t drain. They speed up.

So the child who looks least tired is often the one who needs sleep most.

New data from the 2026 Sleep in America® Poll: 44% of kids aren’t getting the sleep they need, and almost 8 in 10 parents underestimate it by more than an hour a night.

You’re not doing this wrong. Most of us were never told what the number is.

How to ACTUALLY turn your brain off for bed (SCIENCE BACKED)

💬 Comment SLEEP and I’ll send you the full episode.

Your teenager goes to bed at midnight and wakes at 10. School starts at 6.

That’s a four-hour shift — in the exact direction their body clock doesn’t want to go. Which is why “just go to bed earlier tonight” has never once worked in the history of parenting.

You can’t do this overnight. You can do it 15 minutes at a time:

→ Wake 10–15 minutes earlier each day
→ Bright light in their eyes right after waking
→ Move bedtime 10–15 minutes earlier too
→ Keep things dim for the 20–30 minutes before bed
→ Shift meals earlier — food timing feeds the clock as well

At 15 minutes a day, a four-hour shift takes just over two weeks. If school has already started, you’re not behind. You’re starting from where you are.

This is not laziness and it is not defiance. It’s biology, and biology moves slowly.

213 times. One night. One toddler. Comment “SLEEP” for the full episode.

If your child is out of bed again — and again — the instinct is to reason with them. Negotiate. Eventually, raise your voice. Every one of those responses is interesting to a toddler, which is exactly why they keep coming out.

The alternative is what we sometimes call the robotic return:

→ Walk them back to bed
→ Reassure them they’re safe
→ Leave the room
→ Repeat, with no emotion, no coaxing, no negotiation

Same response, every time. Boring on purpose. That consistency is what teaches the limit — not the volume.

One important caveat: this is for a child testing limits, not an anxious child. Anxiety at bedtime is a different problem and needs a different answer. If that sounds more like your kid, don’t force this one.

You are not crazy, and you are not lazy. Bedtime is genuinely hard.

Your teenager sleeping until noon on Saturday isn’t laziness. But it also isn’t a fix.
