The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) participated in the AI International Standards Global Expert Invitation Seminar (AI-CJK Forum). The forum brought together AI standardization experts and practitioners from Japan, Korea, and China, representing academia, industry, testing and certification bodies, as well as representatives from international standardization organizations.

WeGO presented "WeGO and Trends in AI-Driven Smart City Cooperation," covering three key areas. An overview of AI-driven smart city cases from WeGO's global network of over 200 members, including case studies from Rio de Janeiro and Abu Dhabi. An analysis of AI project trends emerging from the 2026 Seoul Smart City Prize, in which 116 out of 210 applications incorporated AI-related elements, demonstrating the significant role of AI in contemporary urban governance. WeGO's ongoing initiative to develop an international standard for smart city project evaluation, drawing on the empirical knowledge and practical outcomes accumulated through the Seoul Smart City Prize.

A notable aspect of WeGO’s participation was the opportunity to engage directly with representatives of Working Group 4 (WG4) under ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 (Artificial Intelligence). The forum provided a concrete channel for WeGO to connect its standardization agenda with the broader ISO community, opening the door to future cooperation on advancing this initiative.

WeGO Champions 2026 Workshops Address the Global Housing Crisis in Geneva, Baku, and Cairo

The WeGO Sustainable Smart City Champions Program launched its 2026 workshop series in Geneva, Cairo, and Baku, bringing together about 100 participants. Focusing on today’s housing challenges and the long-term future of urban housing, the workshops examined how international commitments can be translated into local action through governance, institutional coordination, data-driven approaches, and community engagement.

The first workshop was held on May 7 at Campus Biotech at the University of Geneva, gathering 30 participants to explore international responses to the housing crisis and the gap between multilateral commitments and city-level implementation.

The second session was held on May 21 at the Azerbaijan Pavilion during the World Urban Forum 13 in Baku, gathering 30 participants from academia, government, international organizations, research institutions, and the urban-planning community.

Held at Cairo University on June 4, the workshop brought together 31 students and explored how housing and urban-regeneration agendas interact with Cairo’s urban environment.
