Geriatric and Palliative Care Unit - CSTH, Kalubowila Initially there were two medical officers trained in Geriatric medicine and one medical officer trained in Palliative medicine.

Geriatric and Palliative care unit offers a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary care for Geriatric and Palliative patients including Physical, Psychological, Social and Spiritual care. Geriatric and Palliative care unit of CSTH was initiated in 2019 by consultant physician Dr.Dilhar Samaraweera with the tremendous support of the hospital director Dr.Asela Gunawardena. In January 2020 the unit was

established in a new place within the hospital premises and in the same year it was upgraded into a training centre for MD trainees in Geriatric medicine. Now the unit comprises of,
Consultant physician in charge
Acting consultants in Geriatric Medicine
Senior registras and Registras in Geriatric medicine
Medical officers with Diploma in Geriatric/Palliative medicine
Nursing officers
Physiotherapists
Occupational therapists
Social worker
Health care assisstants
The clinics are held on every weekday from 8am to 4pm and Saturdays from 8am to 12pm. The clinic offers a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary care for geriatric and palliative care patients including physical, psycholigical, social and spiritual care. Apart from the clinics, unit conducts community outreach clinics for elders, music and art therapy sessions, rehabilitation programmes to improve the quality of life of the clients. The unit accepts referrals related to Geriatric and Palliative care from any SLMC registered doctor.
