The Galle Medical Association successfully conducted another insightful session of the Young Specialists’ Forum, focusing on the important topic of challenges and best practices in healthcare for LGBTQ+ patients.

The session featured an engaging presentation by Dr. Shakthi Gunawardena, Senior Registrar in Internal Medicine, National Hospital Galle, followed by a multidisciplinary panel discussion with experts representing psychiatry, clinical psychology, hospital administration, obstetrics & gynaecology, and internal medicine.

The discussion provided valuable perspectives on delivering inclusive, patient-centred healthcare and highlighted the importance of understanding the unique healthcare needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.

The GMA extends its sincere appreciation to the speaker, expert panel, and all participants for their contributions to this meaningful and thought-provoking session.

The *GMA Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya 2026* was held on the 27th May 2026, with devotion and spiritual harmony at the German Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital for Women and the National Hospital Galle, bringing together members of the medical fraternity in celebration of the sacred Vesak festival.

A special felicitation was accorded to Dr. Sudhira Herath, Senior Consultant Surgeon, in appreciation of his inspiring leadership and devotion in guiding the GMA Vesak Bathi Gee tradition for over fifteen years since its inception.

The GMA also conveys heartfelt gratitude to the administrative and healthcare staff of both hospitals for their warm hospitality and support, and to the patients who joined this meaningful Vesak celebration.

Highlights from the GMA Monthly Specialty Update – Critical Care session on “Acute Pulmonary Embolism: When Guidelines Meet Reality.”
