Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project Working hard since 1988 to help save these amazing animals. 🐢❤️ The hatchery was hit by the Tsunami in 2004.

The whole area was destroyed and they had very little money to rebuild the sanctuary so they decided to launch a website and call in international volunteers for there help using the money raised by schools and donations from visitors. 7 years later (2011) the project is doing well and more and more turtles are being saved everyday in one way or another. Eggs are being protected from poachers and the hatchlings are being released back into the wild while being overlooked by the volunteers to ensure they are not caught out by predators such as birds. The sanctuary is now home to 10 Green, Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, Loggerhead and soon to be Leatherback turtles. The turtles are well looked after and made sure they are healthy and eating well, the turtles we have at the moment are victims of fishermen, poachers and the black market. It's not as bad as it used to be but it still happens because at the end of the day it's a way of making money no matter how illegal it is, as money is a big problem here in Sri Lanka. The government play no part in the funding of this place which is why we need your help, you can also contribute by liking/becoming a fan of this page and if your kind enough, giving a small donation the help us help such amazing creatures and stopping them becoming extinct later in life. You are welcome to come and visit anytime and we hope to see you soon, thank you.

With the support of our amazing volunteers, we were honored to conduct a donation program for the primary students of Haegalla Primary College, Kosgoda and Buddhattha Primary College, Ambalangoda. 🎒✨

It was truly a meaningful experience to provide essential school items to children who need them the most. Seeing their smiles and enthusiasm reminded us why these small acts of kindness matter so much. 💛

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community and make a positive difference in these young lives. Thank you to everyone who contributed and supported this initiative!

One of our visitors chose the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project as the place to surprise his girlfriend with a marriage proposal — surrounded by nature, ocean breeze, and the spirit of protecting life.
Just like sea turtles return to the same beach to begin a new life, this couple chose a meaningful place to begin their future together. 🌊✨
We are truly honored that our conservation project was part of such a beautiful moment.
We wish them a lifetime of love, happiness, and shared journeys — for each other and for nature. 🐢💍
Thank you for supporting turtle conservation and spreading love in the most meaningful way.

Today, the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project successfully released a wild sea turtle back into the sea after rescuing it from local fishermen. Instead of allowing this beautiful creature to be sold or harmed, we purchased the turtle and gave it a second chance at life in its natural habitat.
This release is another small but important step in protecting Sri Lanka’s endangered sea turtles and raising awareness among fishing communities about the importance of conservation. Every turtle saved helps keep our oceans healthy and our future hopeful.
A big thank you to everyone who supports our mission and helps us protect these gentle giants. 💚🐢
Together, we can make a difference!
