When countries spend more on debt than on doctors, schools, or food, people pay the price.
Right now:

- Billions of people are affected
- Interest rates are stacked against developing nations
- Trillions of dollars flow out of poorer countries every year

The system is broken—but it can be fixed.
AHF’s Freedom from Debt campaign is pushing for:
✔ A global forum so countries can make fair deals
✔ Debt pauses when health or climate crises hit
✔ A small tax on AI companies to help pay for healthcare, education, and other basic needs
Because everyone deserves a fair chance at a better future.

• 3.4 billion people live in countries that spend more on debt than on health or education.
• Developing nations pay up to 10x higher interest rates.
• About $3 trillion flows from poorer countries to richer ones every year through debt payments and loopholes.
This system isn’t fair—and it’s hurting people.
Our Freedom from Debt campaign is calling for:
✔ A Borrowers’ Forum to give Global South countries a stronger voice
✔ Automatic debt pauses during health and climate crises
✔ A 1% tax on big AI companies to help reduce debt and fund basic needs
Because fair systems help protect people’s dignity and rights.

The global debt crisis is a human rights issue.

When unfair debt payments are prioritized over people, life-saving programs for climate resilience, access to education, and universal healthcare suffer, leaving 3.4 billion people without the resources needed to live with dignity.

Much of this system is tied to financial institutions and lending structures rooted in wealthier economies—making reform a shared responsibility. The U.S. and Europe can play a major role.

The Freedom from Debt campaign is calling for practical solutions:

✔A Borrowers’ Forum to strengthen developing countries’ negotiating power
✔Debt relief during public health and climate crises to protect lives
✔A 1% AI solidarity levy to invest in resilience

Stronger systems abroad mean a more stable future for all.

Mothers to Mothers (m2m) approached AHF Lesotho for a strategic collaboration meeting, which was held on 09 June 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity for both organizations to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore potential avenues for collaboration in support of shared health and community outcomes.
The proposed partnership seeks to leverage successful peer-led models, including the Girls Act, Boys to Men, and Mentor Mother programmes, which empower young people, men, women, and families with the knowledge and support needed to make informed health decisions. These initiatives have demonstrated positive outcomes in increasing HIV prevention uptake, improving ART adherence, and ensuring continuity of care from adolescence into adulthood.
Through integrated service delivery and innovative community-based approaches, AHF Lesotho and mothers2mothers aim to bridge healthcare gaps within AHF-supported facilities and communities, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Together, the two organizations are committed to building stronger, healthier communities and contributing to Lesotho's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

A stable global economy depends on sustainable debt for developing countries.

Many developing countries pay two to ten times higher interest rates than wealthier nations while also losing billions of dollars that flow out each year through debt servicing and financial leakage, often back into wealthy countries.

This weakens health systems, slows development, and increases global risk.
Leaders in the U.S. and Europe can help lead meaningful reform.

Our Freedom from Debt campaign calls for:
✔ Implement a Borrowers’ Forum to strengthen the Global South’s negotiating power
✔ Ensure debt pauses during public health emergencies or climate disasters
✔ Back a global AI solidarity levy on AI firms’ capital investments and revenues

Unsustainable debt is a human rights issue. A fairer, more balanced system benefits everyone.

Strengthening Partnerships for Better HIV Outcomes in Lesotho

AHF Lesotho and FHI 360, through the Epic Project, held a strategic collaboration meeting aimed at enhancing HIV service delivery, strengthening compliance and governance, and fostering greater coordination across supported facilities and districts.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to developing more integrated, efficient, and sustainable approaches to HIV prevention, care, and treatment. By aligning efforts and sharing expertise, we can better support healthcare facilities, improve service quality, and accelerate progress toward achieving HIV epidemic control in Lesotho.

Together, we are building stronger health systems and advancing our vision of ensuring that everyone has access to quality HIV services.
