Long before Zinfandel became a California staple, our founder Mike Grgich believed it had a deeper story, one rooted in Croatia. 🇭🇷

When UC Davis Professor Carole Meredith's genetic testing confirmed what Mike had suspected, a team of enologists set out to find the varietal's ancestors. What they discovered were nine ancient Crljenak Kaštelanski vines growing quietly in a small Croatian village, owned by Ivan Radunić (pictured below with Mike Grgich).

Cuttings were brought to America for cultivation, and one found its home right here in our Calistoga vineyard. Today, those cuttings have grown into two acres of something truly extraordinary — a wine unlike any California Zinfandel you've ever tasted.

The 2023 Miljenko's Selection Crljenak Kaštelanski is now available, but it won't be for long. It's time to reserve your bottles of this small production today.
