Yesterday, CRPD staff attended the launch of Sette Giugno 1919: Memory & Ritual at St John's Co-Cathedral. The exhibition explores the collective memory of the Sette Giugno events through memory and ritual.

Part of the exhibition features five tactile emblems that visitors can explore through touch, contributing to a more accessible experience for blind and visually impaired visitors. This part of the exhibition was developed in collaboration with CRPD. Each emblem is also accompanied by an audiodescription - providing further historical and artistic context.

We commend St John's Co-Cathedral for being at the forefront of this initiative. The craftsmanship behind the tactile elements helps make a significant chapter of Malta’s history accessible to a wider audience.

The exhibition is open at St John’s Co-Cathedral until the end of the month. More information is available here 👉 https://shorturl.at/5JgWY

This week, the Disability Equality Training (DET) team completed its 52nd training session for this year - reaching a total of 2,085 participants so far.

The last session saw trainers Vanessa Cassar and Blaine Schembri deliver a Disability Etiquette session for community police officers at the Academy for Disciplined Forces.

CRPD's Disability Equality Training (DET) Unit delivers disability awareness and equality training to public and private organisations. These sessions are delivered by persons with disability who have lived experience of a wide range of impairments.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dora, beloved guide dog and loyal companion to our DET Manager Christine.

Dora’s passing has been deeply felt across the CRPD office. Her calm and gentle presence made her a cherished member of our community and a star at all of our events, and she will be greatly missed.

This year marks two significant milestones: 10 years since the recognition of Maltese Sign Language (LSM) and 20 years of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

To celebrate these achievements, the Maltese Sign Language Council (KLSM) will be participating in a side event during the 19th Conference of States Parties to the CRPD at the United Nations on 11 June 2026.

The event will bring together Deaf organisations, advocates, experts, and community representatives from around the world to reflect on the progress made in advancing Deaf rights, language recognition, accessibility, and inclusion, while discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Together, we will celebrate Deaf identity, language, culture, and human rights, and highlight the importance of continued action towards a more inclusive society for all.
