As nurses, we often see how quickly someone can become seriously unwell in extreme heat.

Heatstroke can happen faster than many people realise. If someone develops hot, dry skin, a very high temperature, or becomes confused, don’t wait to see if they improve. Treat it as an emergency and call 112.

Take care of yourself, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on those who may be more vulnerable during this heatwave.
Prevention starts with awareness.

🌞 Stay Safe Under the Scorching Sun! 🌞**

Hey everyone 😊 With temperatures soaring very high, it's crucial to remember to protect ourselves from the sun's harmful rays. Whether you're enjoying a day at the park, heading to the beach, or just spending time outside, keep in mind some essential sun protection tips to keep you safe and healthy:

**1. Wear Sunscreen:** 🧴 Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30-50. Apply it generously and reapply every two hours, especially if you're swimming or sweating.

**2. Seek Shade:** 🌳 Stay in the shade during peak sun hours (10 AM to 4 PM). Use umbrellas or tents, or find natural shade under trees.

**3. Protective Clothing:** 👒 Wide-brimmed hats, and UV-protective sunglasses. Light-coloured, loose-fitting fabrics are the best!

**4. Stay Hydrated:** 💧 Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Watch out for signs like dry mouth, dizziness, and dark urine.

**5. Sun-Protective Accessories:** 🕶️ Don’t forget your hats and sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays. Portable fans and misters can also help keep you cool.

**Why is this so important? Prolonged exposure to high UV rays can cause serious health issues:**
- **Sunburn:** Painful, red skin that can blister and peel.
- **Heatstroke:** A severe condition with symptoms like high body temperature, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
- **Skin Aging:** UV rays can cause premature aging, leading to wrinkles, sunspots, and loss of skin elasticity.
- **Skin Cancer:** Prolonged exposure increases the risk of skin cancers, including melanoma, the most dangerous form.
**Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly! 🌞💚**
