Our dogs and cats deserve nutrition chosen for their individual needs — not simply what is easiest to scoop into a bowl.

Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements, and even within the same species, needs can vary according to age, breed, activity level, body condition and health. Cats, in particular, are obligate carnivores and have specific requirements for nutrients such as taurine, arachidonic acid and preformed vitamin A.

For us, feeding with purpose means looking beyond convenience and asking:

What does this individual dog or cat actually need?

We believe in using fresh, recognisable whole-food ingredients and creating meals with nutrition in mind — while recognising that whatever feeding method is chosen, the overall diet needs to provide the correct nutrients for the animal and life stage.

Because nutrition shouldn't be one-size-fits-all.

During puppyhood, bones, cartilage, joints and connective tissues are developing rapidly. This is particularly important for large breeds and breeds predisposed to joint problems such as French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, and Golden Retrievers.

Pork sometimes gets a bad reputation in canine nutrition — but when properly sourced and handled, it can be a nutritious and valuable protein to include in a varied diet.

So, what does pork bring to the bowl?

Pork provides complete animal protein containing essential amino acids needed for muscle maintenance, tissue repair and normal body function.

SUPPLEMENTS — DO THEY REALLY BELONG IN EVERY BOWL? 🐾

One question we’re often asked is: Why don’t we add supplements to every Betty’s meal?

The answer is simple: because every dog and every cat is an individual.

What benefits one animal may be unnecessary for another. Breed, age, lifestyle, life stage, diet and existing health concerns can all influence what additional nutritional support they may need.

At Betty’s, we believe supplements shouldn’t be the foundation of nutrition — food should be.

That’s why we use a variety of whole, fresh foods to provide nutrients naturally wherever possible, rather than automatically adding the same supplements to every bowl.

Does that mean we’re against supplements? Absolutely not.

We believe supplements can be incredibly beneficial — when they’re chosen for a reason.

A young, healthy dog has different needs from a senior experiencing mobility changes. A breed predisposed to heart problems may benefit from different nutritional support than one predisposed to joint issues. Cats have their own individual requirements too.

Depending on the animal, we may recommend additional support for:

One of the biggest misconceptions about raw feeding is that it has to be complicated, time-consuming or overwhelming.

It really doesn’t have to be. 💙

For many pet parents, once they establish a routine, feeding raw becomes just another normal part of the day — open, portion, serve… and judging by the faces waiting at mealtime, they usually know exactly when dinner is due! 😂

But raw feeding isn't simply about putting raw meat into a bowl.
