Erasmus+ Mobility Visit – Mental Health Services (NMHS) 🌍✨

Ms Catherine Galea, Entity Lead within the National Mental Health Services, recently completed an enriching Erasmus+ mobility visit to Belgium, focused on knowledge exchange and best practices in mental health care.

During her visit, Catherine attended the ECHOS Cancer Mission Hub business lunch, where representatives from across Europe explored key themes including education, early detection, timely intervention, the psychological impact of cancer on patients and families, and the need for greater consistency in service delivery.

A key component of the mobility experience was a visit to the Centre Neuro-Psychiatrique Saint-Martin in Namur, where she engaged with multidisciplinary teams across various wards. This provided valuable insight into service organisation, integrated care pathways, and recovery-oriented approaches within mental health settings.

Highlights of the visit included:
🧠 Observing multidisciplinary collaboration across inpatient, day, and community mental health services
🌱 Learning about innovative initiatives such as the Interreg Forest4Youth project, exploring forest-based therapies for adolescent mental health recovery
🤝 Exchanging perspectives on service delivery models and continuity of care
📋 Gaining insight into recovery-oriented practices and integrated care pathways

This Erasmus+ experience highlighted the importance of coordinated, patient-centred care, strong multidisciplinary teamwork, and innovative therapeutic approaches. The knowledge gained will contribute to the continued development and enhancement of mental health services in Malta. 💙✨
