It is all about a balanced diet - focus more on the quality than the quantity. A meal planning is the most powerful tool to make a balance diet affordable.
A balanced diet is crucial for a healthy wellbeing- prevention from heart diseases, cancers and diabetes. For my insight, an estimate between Rs 8,000-10,000 minimum monthly per individual has been calculated to achieve a balance meal daily.
A simple guidance:
1. What makes a meal “balanced” (but still affordable)?
A proper balanced plate should include:
* Carbohydrates (base) → wholegrain based- rice, farata, bread, potatoes
* Protein (muscle + satiety) → lentils, eggs, lean chicken, fish
* Vegetables (volume + nutrients) → seasonal/local/frozen veg
* Healthy fats (small amount) → avocado/olive oil, seeds, nuts
2. Budget-friendly protein choices
These are your most low-cost staples:
* Lentils (dholl, split peas)
* Chickpeas (gros pois)
* Eggs (very cost-effective)
* Canned tuna (in water)
* Lean chicken
* Beans (haricots rouges, black beans)
👉 Use fish only 2 times/week
3. Smart shopping = big savings (more affordable)
* Buy seasonal vegetables (much cheaper + fresher)
* Choose local markets instead of supermarkets
* Buy in bulk: rice, lentils, oats
* Avoid processed foods (they cost more and are less filling)
