ABC Hearing Clinic and Training Centre ABC Hearing Clinic and Training Centre EARS Inc. In the past year alone, the ABC clinic has examined 2,000 people and fitted more than 400 hearing aids.

audiologists Peter and Bec Bartlett are responsible for establishing the first audiology clinic in Malawi in sub-Saharan Africa. Opened in 2013, the clinic is well equipped, with an adult and paediatric sound booth for diagnostic testing, objective hearing assessment equipment (OAE, ABR and ASSR), and a laboratory where custom ear-moulds are made on-site. The staff also travels to various parts of

the country, visiting health clinics and schools and providing treatment for adults and children with hearing loss who cannot travel to the clinic in Lilongwe.

Did you know? Hearing aids can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars, making them inaccessible for many people in Malawi who need them. Yet, for someone with hearing loss, a hearing aid can open the door to communication, education, and greater independence.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of J & K Wonderland Foundation and Ears Incorporated, we were able to fit over 100 hearing aids free of charge through Project S.H.A.R.E (Support Hearing Aid Rehabilitation and Education), giving children and individuals the opportunity to hear and connect with the world around them. 💙👂

📌Day 1 - Embangweni

Our first day focused on verification and matching each child with their hearing aid bag, ensuring every device was ready for a successful fitting journey. Every name checked and every bag sorted brought us one step closer to connecting children with sound.

Project S.H.A.R.E 2026 - Journey Complete!👂💙

A team of 12 Audiology students from Cohort 6, accompanied by 2 supervisors, embarked on an incredible outreach journey to fit hearing aids and bring the gift of sound to children in need.

Our Journey began in Lilongwe to Embangweni School for the Deaf, then we continued to Bandawe School for the hearing impairment in Nkhatabay, lastly to MUA Deaf School in Dedza.

As we return home after this successful outreach, Cohort 6 now looks forward to the next chapter of our training through internships.

Three students will be joining Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, three will be placed at Kamuzu Central Hospital, and 6 students will continue their learning at ABC Hearing Clinic.

We are grateful to Project Share, our Supervisors, the schools, teachers, guardians, and everyone who made this life changing Journey possible.
Together, we are making hearing health care accessible, one child at a time.

Continuing the journey of transforming lives through better hearing.

From 7th June, our team embarked on the continuation of Project S.H.A.R.E, travelling to Embangweni School for the Deaf, Bandawe School for the Hearing impairment, and MUA School for the Deaf with one mission: ensuring every child has the opportunity to hear, learn, and thrive.

Over the course of this outreach, we fitted hearing aids, provided follow up care, and worked closely with teachers and guardians to support the long term success of each child. Every hearing aid fitted represents more than technology, it represents connection, communication, education, and hope.

We are grateful to everyone who made this outreach possible and to the schools for welcoming us into their communities. Together, we are breaking barriers and creating brighter futures, one child at a time.

Our team of 12 students and 4 staff members recently travelled to Mzuzu to commemorate the WORLD HEARING DAY. World Hearing Day is a global awareness day dedicated to promoting ear and hearing care, preventing hearing loss, and encouraging early identification and treatment of hearing problems.

In collaboration with Wezi Medical Centre, where our new ABC-Wezi Hearing clinic is located. We conducted a successful community outreach that reached 149 people. During the outreach we performed otoscopy screenings, offered ear and hearing health education, and referred many individuals for further clinical assistance at Wezi.

This initiative is important because people in the Northern Region often have to travel over 360 km from Mzuzu to Lilongwe to access specialized hearing Services. With the ABC-Wezi Hearing clinic, communities can now receive help closer to home.

The outreach also gained national television coverage, helping spread awareness about ear and hearing health to an even wider audience.

One of the patients interviewed shared their appreciation, saying they were grateful that services were brought closer to the people, as many had never even heard about hearing care services before.

👏Together we can achieve so much more.
Let's continue to raise awareness, support ear and hearing health, and ensure no one is left behind.
