AJOG Surgeon's Corner: How to avoid placental transection during low transverse cesarean delivery for anterior placenta previa - Placental edge mobilization in anterior placenta previa - A, The surgeon inserts the hand through the hysterotomy and performs a controlled placental separation (abruptio) by dissecting the plane between the placenta (asterisk) and the myometrium toward the placental edge closest to the incision. B, Upon reaching the amniotic membranes, the surgeon changes the direction of the fingers to rupture the amniotic sac and drain the amniotic fluid. C, After exteriorizing the previously detached placental edge (asterisk), the surgeon proceeds with the routine fetal extraction. D, Fetuses in cephalic presentation are delivered in the usual manner.
