L E S S O N S…from the Sahara 🏜️ 🌵 🐪
I’ve been to Afrika twice now - and both times were transformational. There’s something special about the motherland that is palpable to me the moment I land. This time, I had the privilege of experiencing what I imagine very few of us have - being deep in the Sahara Desert and residing in the nearly untouched womb of Mother Nature for a few days. It was so special and healing. Here are a few reflections I’m taking forward - lessons to remember:
✨Silence. I named my business “Soulspeak” because I wanted to create the conditions with intention to support women in their ability to hear their soul speak - to quiet the noise of every day life and reconnect with their inner wisdom. Never have the conditions for this been greater than in the resounding silence of the Sahara Desert. The vastness of the sand dunes and the twinkling night sky are a unique and sacred experience - it is incomparable and will stay with me forever.
✨Perspective. When you watch the bright electric orange sunrise while sitting at the top of a sand dune with nothing but sand and nature around you for miles upon miles, everything else feels small. When you consider the stories and history of the people and wildlife that have traveled across this land, there’s so much wisdom and resilience. It’s easy to forget that life is so much bigger than the very small things we allow to torment us. How often we take the abundance we have for granted. Live in the present, love freely, be grateful.
✨Beauty. Theres so much beauty in the Sahara. It’s in the spirit of the people, it’s in the harmony of nature with the animals, it’s in the sexy curves of the sand dunes, it’s in the sunrise and sunset - it’s all. so. beautiful. Surrounded by the intensity of this, you’re reminded of the beauty that also resides within you. You will be sweating buckets, swatting hundreds of flies, fresh from a baby wipe “shower” and think to yourself - I’m a f@&$ing queen. That’s the beauty of the Sahara. She’s a bad bitch, and she knows it.
Thank you Mother Afrika for being the ever present reminder of our innate greatness. What a gift. 💝 🙏🏽
