Daycare CTO PCI?🫢
🏥 A 51-year-old gentleman with hypertension and hyperlipidaemia was electively admitted for coronary angiography due to angina and an abnormal stress test.
🚗Prior to admission, his insurance provider required an additional hospital visit for a repeat ECG and cardiac markers, both of which were predictably normal.
The angiogram was subsequently approved as a *daycare procedure*. However, the patient was still admitted as an inpatient for the procedure.
Coronary angiography revealed two-vessel disease with a chronic total occlusion ( ) of the RCA. Successful PCI was performed to the RCA CTO, and the patient was discharged well the following day after one night of close observation.
While diagnostic angiography may be suitable as a daycare procedure in selected patients, the reality is that angioplasty is sometimes required during the same setting. In such cases, overnight monitoring is often necessary to ensure patient safety and to detect any post-procedural complications early.
