👂 “Just a crackling sound…”
That’s what the patient thought.
Even tried cleaning it out with a cotton bud… but the sound didn’t stop.
So we took a closer look inside the ear 👀
—and found something unexpected.
🕷️ A tiny spider-like insect… alive inside the ear canal, cleverly hiding in the anterior recess.
So small… it was barely visible even with the endoscope.
Every movement it made?
That was the “crackling” the patient kept hearing.
Management: The insect was first immobilized using lignocaine spray, then carefully suctioned out.
✔️ No more sound
✔️ No more insect
✔️ Immediate relief
⚠️ Lesson:
If your ear feels unusual — crackling, crawling, movement — don’t ignore it.
And definitely don’t poke around with cotton buds.
Sometimes… it’s not just wax.😆

🦻 Myringoplasty – Clinical Experience from ENT Practice

Myringoplasty is a common ENT procedure performed to repair a perforated eardrum.

Most patients present with recurrent ear discharge and reduced hearing.

✅ Benefits include:
• Stops repeated ear discharge
• Improves hearing
• Protects the middle ear
• Improves quality of life

The procedure is safe and effective when done at the right time.

I’m happy to share that all of my post-operative patients noticed better hearing, and most felt no need to repeat a hearing test.

Two patients underwent post-operative hearing assessments (for work requirements and insurance coverage), and both showed near-normal hearing 🎉

Early ENT assessment truly makes a difference.

If you have persistent ear discharge or hearing difficulty, don’t ignore it — protect your hearing early.

🩺 Foreign Body in Esophagus
Last Saturday, I treated an 8-year-old child 👦 with a coin stuck in the esophagus.

Children are naturally curious and often put objects in their mouths. Swallowing coins, batteries, magnets, or small toy parts is common and dangerous in children.

A foreign body in the esophagus is a medical emergency 🚨. A foreign body stuck in the esophagus can lead to pain, infection, perforation, or breathing problems if not treated in time.

Thankfully, the coin was removed safely 🙏.

👨‍⚕‍ Quick Medical Advice for Parents:
🔹 Keep small objects out of reach
🔹 Supervise young children 🧸
🔹 Watch for warning signs:
• Difficulty swallowing
• Drooling 🤤
• Chest/neck pain
• Vomiting 🤮

❌ Do NOT try home remedies, induce vomiting, or give solid food
🏥 Seek immediate medical attention — early treatment prevents serious complications

🌡️ Ear Blockage During or After the Flu — What You Should Know

Many patients experience blocked ears during or shortly after a flu illness. This is most often related to middle-ear problems, such as acute otitis media or middle ear effusion.

When the flu causes inflammation in the upper respiratory tract, the Eustachian tube (the canal connecting the middle ear to the back of the nose) may become swollen. This prevents normal ventilation of the middle ear, leading to fluid buildup or infection behind the eardrum.

👉 Common symptoms include:
• Fullness or pressure in the ears
• Ear pain
• Muffled hearing
• Dizziness or imbalance

🩺 How We Manage Ear Blockage
1️⃣ Conservative Measures

• Try swallowing, yawning, or sucking sweets to encourage the Eustachian tubes to open.
• Perform a gentle valsalva maneuver:
Take a deep breath → close your mouth → pinch your nose → try blowing out gently.
A soft “pop” usually means the pressure has equalised.

2️⃣ Medications (when appropriate)

• Antibiotics — if a bacterial infection is suspected
• Antihistamines
• Short-term nasal decongestants
• Steroid nasal sprays to reduce inflammation

3️⃣ Surgical Options

For persistent fluid or recurrent infections:
• Myringotomy (small incision in the eardrum)
• With or without grommet (ventilation tube) insertion

📌 When to See an ENT Specialist

Seek early ENT consultation if symptoms are:
• Severe
• Lasting more than a few days
• Associated with intense pain or hearing loss
