Why muscles cramps
A cramp is a sudden, involuntary tightening of a muscle. The leading explanation today is that the nerves controlling the muscle become overexcited and fire too much, while the signals that normally tell the muscle to relax are weakened. Fatigue is the main driver of this. The factors on your list all push in that direction:
☀️Hot and/or humid conditions: heavy sweating and heat stress add to muscle fatigue.
💦Dehydration: fluid and sodium losses can make muscles and nerves more excitable.
Sudden increase in exercise: doing more than the muscle is used to tires it quickly.
🤕Muscle injury: damaged or irritated muscle and nerves are more likely to misfire.
🥱Lack of sleep: poor recovery makes muscles fatigue sooner.
🏃Poor muscle conditioning: an under-trained muscle tires early, and fatigue is when cramps usually strike.
How to fix a cramp
Stretch the cramping muscle: gently and steadily, holding until it eases. Stretching reactivates the sensors that tell the muscle to relax.
Prevention tip to add: build up training gradually, stay well hydrated, get enough sleep, and train the muscles you rely on most.
