Liver cancer doesn’t only affect the liver. Bile duct obstruction can also become a serious complication.
When a liver tumour grows near or presses against the bile ducts, bile may no longer flow normally into the intestine.
This can cause bilirubin to build up in the bloodstream.🩸
Over time, patients may begin to experience:
🔵 Yellowing of the skin and eyes
🔵 Dark urine and pale stools
🔵 Persistent or intense itching
🔵 An increased risk of bile duct infection
If the obstruction becomes more severe, it may further affect liver function and require medical attention to relieve the blockage.
For cancer patients, treatment is not only about managing the tumour.
Managing complications and maintaining quality of life are also important throughout the cancer journey.✨
