Recently, a friend asked me, “How have you stayed in this line of work for so long?”
It really got me thinking.
And in all honesty, I’ve had my fair share of burnout, just like many of my friends in the corporate world. There have been moments where I felt tired, demotivated, and questioned whether I could keep going.
But that question made me reflect on what kept me going, even during those difficult periods.
And I found my answer during a session with the child I’ve worked with for the longest — 9 years and counting.
It was the continuous cycle of learning.
Over the years, I realised that while I was teaching these children, they were teaching me too.
They taught me that mistakes are learning opportunities.
They taught me patience.
They taught me to look at things from a different perspective.
They taught me to listen, to be flexible, and to understand that there isn’t always one right way to do things.
There isn’t one perfect approach.
There isn’t one perfect program.
There isn’t one perfect way to teach.
Every child is different, and we should celebrate those differences.
Sometimes, we need to slow down.
Sometimes, the whole plan needs to change.
Sometimes, we simply need to listen.
And perhaps the biggest lesson of all:
I thought I was here to teach the children.
But the children have taught me too. 🤍
To all the children who have crossed paths with me over these years — thank you.
Thank you for the lessons, the challenges, the little wins, the unexpected moments, and for constantly reminding me that there is always something new to learn.
I appreciate every lesson you’ve taught me, and I hope we can continue learning from each other for many more years to come. ❤️
Here’s to the continuous cycle of learning. 🧠✨
