A big fan. 🤣🥰

Last year, I spent my birthday watching the sunset by the beach.

This year, I spent it restoring someone's sight.

An extra special birthday, as I had the privilege of being the first in Perak to perform cataract surgery using the ZEISS ARTEVO 750. (and the first within the Sunway Healthcare Group). 🤩💫🙆🏻‍♀️

To most people, it's just another microscope. To an eye surgeon, it's our window into the eye. With its customisable RGB illumination and integrated CALLISTO eye system, it gives us an incredibly clear view and helps make every step of cataract surgery even more precise.

Technology doesn't replace surgical skill. When paired with experience and good judgement, it helps us provide the best possible care for our patients.

A birthday I'll remember for a long time. Grateful to keep doing what I love, helping people see the world more clearly, one eye at a time. ❤️

P.S. the RGB lighting can be customised to suit surgeons preference to achieve just the right amount of ambience and effect during surgery.

What happens when one donates their eyes after they've passed on?

Eye donation does NOT mean someone receives your entire eyeball.

This is one of the most common myths about eye donation.

In reality, the tissues most commonly donated are the cornea and the sclera.

🔹 The cornea is the clear front window of the eye. A healthy donated cornea can restore sight to someone with corneal disease, injury, infection, or corneal failure.

🔹 The sclera is the white part of the eye. Although it does not restore vision directly, donated scleral tissue is invaluable for reconstructive eye surgeries. It can be used to repair damaged eyes, reinforce thin areas of the eye, cover glaucoma drainage devices, support ocular implants, and help preserve the eye after trauma or disease.

❌ Myth: The whole eyeball is transplanted.

✅ Fact: Whole eye transplantation is not currently possible because the optic nerve (which connects the eye to the brain) cannot yet be reconnected to restore vision.

Eye donation is a remarkable gift. While no one receives an entire eyeball, your donation can restore sight, save many eyes from being lost, and improve the quality of life of multiple patients.

Have you pledged to become an organ donor? 💙👁️

A legend’s final act was not for the screen, but for humanity. K. Bhagyaraj’s eyes have been donated in accordance with his wishes, allowing his legacy to live on through the gift of vision.
