The arrival of the month of Aadi

Today its the first day of the month of Aadi. It is the first Friday and hence the month beginned with the first Aadi Velli prayer.

This whole month one can fast, be vegetarian or fruitarians. A devotee can just observe the month with prayer, mantra chanting, visit temples and join in the abhisegam and Pooja or practice silence and meditation.

May Her unconditional love heal and flourish the world. She is the creator, destroyer and healer. May Mother Athi Parashakthi's blessings shine and flow into each and every living being on this planet.

Amavasya or Ammavasai, the New Moon Day in the Hindu calendar, is a spiritually significant monthly event. On this day, the moon is completely hidden, marking a powerful dark night.

Dedicated to honouring ancestors (Pitru), this occasion encourages spiritual rituals, fasting, and introspection for inner peace. Beyond its astronomical definition as the new moon, Amavasya holds deeper spiritual meaning: a profound moment for dissolution, resetting, and returning to the ultimate source.

Most importantly, Amavasya isn't a negative "dark" day. Rather, it's a powerful, transitional period. As outward visibility decreases, our memories awaken, karma gains clarity, and the mind naturally turns inward. It serves as the rich, generative core of the lunar cycle, mirroring how silence gives birth to sound.

Instead of celebratory energy, Amavasya resonates with a deep dissolving force. Spiritually, it's considered the manifestation of Shunya, a "fertile void" or "nothingness" that emerges as the moon (representing mind and emotions) aligns with the sun. This makes the day perfect for release, closure, remembrance, and thoughtful restraint, truly embodying Shunya.

Amavasya marks a deep shift: individual identity dissolves into broader awareness, all forms return to their formless origin, and cycles find a serene resting point. In yogic terms, while the full moon represents the mind's fullness, Amavasya reflects its emptiness—not a void, but a space of boundless potential.

Amavasya is deeply connected to Pitru Karma (ancestral memory). With fewer distractions, the mind accesses old memories and karmic imprints more freely. In Hinduism, ancestors represent genetic memory, emotional inheritance, unresolved duties, and lineage consciousness, not "ghosts."

This spiritual day empowers descendants to deeply recognize their lineage, show gratitude, release inherited burdens, and restore a sense of continuity. Therefore, rituals such as Tarpana and acts of remembrance are specifically performed on Amavasya.

Hindu timekeeping, long before psychology, wisely observed natural emotional flows. Amavasya amplifies emotional sensitivity, bringing on introspection, fatigue, old memories, and unresolved feelings. These are seen not as personal flaws, but as predictable biological and lunar effects.

Amavasya's lesson is to embrace rest, honesty, and stillness. Not following this rhythm can lead to an unexplained emotional heaviness. Its principles are linked to Shiva, representing dissolution and stillness, and Shakti, embodying unmanifested power.

Amavasya teaches that confronting avoided issues prevents suffering. By providing a sacred time for introspection and facing our "darkness," it stops these issues from becoming pathological. It's a day for profound permission: to pause, empty, and reset without needing justification, thus preserving a crucial depth. We learn that creation begins in the deep silence before light.

Thus, for devoted Hindus, observing Amavasya unlocks abundant blessings from their ancestors. This spiritual practice facilitates powerful life guidance and deep healing, gracefully leading the surrendered individual to a profound personal transformation, aligning with divine timing.

Varaha Jayanthi is a revered regional Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Varaha, the divine boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
This auspicious day is a time for devotees to reflect on new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil.

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Varaha rescued the Earth (Bhuma Devi) from the depths of the cosmic waters, lifting it with his tusks and restoring it to its rightful place. This powerful act symbolizes protection, restoration, and the victory of dharma (righteousness) over chaos. Devotees believe that honouring Lord Varaha on this day safeguard wealth, prosperity, and family well-being.

As the third of Lord Vishnu’s ten powerful incarnations, Lord Varaha is seen as a protector who shields his devotees from troubles and mishaps. Worshiping him on Varaha Jayanthi is believed to bless devotees with courage, bravery, and the removal of fears.

Lord Varaha’s form is unique, combining the head of a boar with a human body. His primary purpose in incarnating was to defeat the mighty demon Hiranyakashipu, who had dragged the Earth into the cosmic ocean, disrupting nature and its laws.

Devotees who observe Varaha Jayanthi are believed to receive numerous blessings, including:

1. Becoming courageous and free from fears and worries.
2. Assistance in legal matters, as Lord Varaha embodies truth.
3. Cultivation of honesty, strength, kindness, and truthfulness.

Panguni Uthiram is a significant Tamil Hindu festival, typically observed on the full moon in the Tamil month of Panguni (the 12th and final month), which usually falls in March or April. This day is known as Phalguna in the Hindu lunar calendar and Meena in the Hindu solar calendar.

It's a particularly auspicious time, celebrated as the divine wedding day for several deities:

• Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati: This union, also revered as Gowri Kalyanam, symbolizes the balance of masculine and feminine energies and consciousness.

• Lord Muruga and Goddess Deivanai: Their marriage signifies responsibility and divine purpose.

• Lord Rama and Goddess Sita: Their unification exemplifies ideal love and dharma.

Panguni Uthiram also holds importance for other divine events. It is believed to be the day Goddess Mahalakshmi emerged from the ocean, known as Mahalakshmi Jayanthi, and also the birth anniversary of Lord Ayyappan. Consequently, prayers are held in various temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Mahalakshmi, and Lord Ayyappan.

Beyond the celebration of these divine marriages, Panguni Uthiram carries a deeper spiritual meaning, representing the merging of the soul (Athma) with the Almighty (Paramathma)—a celestial marriage. The unique alignment of the full moon and Uthiram star on this day creates a powerful spiritual vibration. Devotees often experience enhanced emotional clarity, healing in relationships, and a heightened effectiveness of prayers for marriage and family. It's considered an ideal time to release past misunderstandings through forgiveness and to begin anew in personal relationships.

Ultimately, Panguni Uthiram reinforces a simple yet profound message: relationships matter. It encourages nurturing bonds with patience, understanding, and compassion, whether with a life partner, family, or oneself. It's a time for forgiveness, reconnection, and moving forward with positivity, reflecting the harmony we aspire to in our own lives. Even a simple observance, such as lighting a lamp, offering a heartfelt prayer, or performing a small pooja at home, is meaningful when done with sincere intention.

The month of Aadi is auspicious. This year's one month celebration was from 17th July to 16th August 2025. This spiritual month is believed to be sacred. It is the month dedicated for worships to the feminine energy or deities. These are all different Avatar's of Mother Parvati and Mariamman.

Devotees address her as Amma or Maa and she comes in various forms to bless her divine children. During this whole month, devotees pray for prosperity, fertility, protection from evil and all forms of blessings.

Hence, many devotees would observe this entire month either by visiting to different temples or praying in their own homes. Many people would go on complete fasting and some will only consume vegetarian meals. Others may observe the weekly prayers on Tuesdays and Fridays. A majority will take their Pal Kudam or Milk Pots as prayer offerings for Divine Mother Shakthi.

Devotees would do charity by donating food, beverages and also clothes for the needy. All those who go to the temples, will never go empty handed. Instead, they would bring along garlands, bangles, fruits and some will add on sarees as their prayer offerings. Not forgetting the lighting of ghee lamps.

It is indeed an auspicious month for all Hindus across the globe. A divine month that stirs up the positive energy through abhisegams, mantra chanting, homa's and pooja's. It is during this month that most Indian business people will be able to earn their living in a bigger wave. From the florist to the milk supplier to the saree sellers. There is a huge network that will be busy for the entire month serving the people's needs which turns out into offerings for their prayer.

May all those who have worked hard throughout this spiritual month be blessed with love and abundance.

Guru Purnima

"GURU BRAHMA, GURU VISHNU,
GURU DHEVO, MAHESWAHARA,
GURU SHAKSHAT, PARABRAHMA,
TASMAI SRI GURUVE NAMAHA."

This is a salutation all Hindu's say in their daily prayer. It is a reminder that the the Trimurthi's; Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara are also seen in a Guru. A highly significant day in Hinduism.

Definitely a day to convey our sincere Gratitude to our Divine Masters for they are our guiding-lights and knowledge-givers of a lifetime.

A guru is known as a "Displer of Darkness" which solely means He is one who removes ignorance and shows us the path to enlightment. On this day Sage Vyasa is remembered as he compiled the foundational texts such as Mahabaratham and Vedas.

Brahma Shri Swami Sivanandha emphasized to remember this day as it is a day to be thankful to all Guru's who have walked on this earth to depart the divine teachings and opened the doors to spiritual teachings.

Hence, every devotee must remember to offer their prayers through mantra chanting, poojas and meditation. Also one should do some form of charity to all living beings. This way a devotee will seek their Guru's blessings and guidance on a lifelong journey to self-discoveries and transformations in this birth.
