⚠️ BEWARE OF “CHARLIE” BEETLE ⚠️
( Paederus / Rove Beetle )

“Charlie” is NOT an ant and it does NOT bite or sting.
The skin reaction happens when the beetle is accidentally crushed on the skin, releasing a toxin called PEDERIN.

🚨 Common Symptoms:
• Burning skin sensation
• Red rash
• Blisters
• Linear “whiplash” marks
• Dark skin marks after healing
• Eye exposure may cause severe irritation (“Nairobi Eye”)

🛑 Prevention Tips:
✅ Do NOT crush the beetle
✅ Gently blow or brush it away
✅ Keep windows closed or use insect screens at night

How to Open a TPN Package Safely at Home ?

TPN, or Total Parenteral Nutrition, is a special nutrition solution given through a central line. Because it goes directly into the bloodstream, cleanliness is extremely important.

Before opening any TPN package:

✅ Wash hands properly with soap and water
✅ Prepare a clean working surface
✅ Check the patient’s name and prescription label
✅ Check the expiry date
✅ Make sure the TPN bag is not leaking
✅ Do not use if the solution looks cloudy, has particles, or the packaging is damaged
✅ Open the outer package carefully without touching the connection port
✅ Keep all connections sterile

How to Reduce Phlegm for Elderly At Home ???

1. Optimise Medication • Use prescribed broncholytic agents such as Fluimucil® (acetylcysteine), Bromhexine, or Ambroxol to help break down and thin mucus, making it easier to expel.

2. Maintain Adequate Hydration • Drink enough fluids throughout the day. Proper hydration helps thin the mucus, allowing it to be cleared more easily from the airways.

3. Regular Chest Physiotherapy • Perform gentle chest physiotherapy techniques (percussion, vibration, or postural drainage) to help loosen phlegm, making coughing more effective.
4. Nebulisation • Use a nebuliser with hypertonic saline (3% or 7%) or special medications like Acetylcysteine or Bromhexine to break down mucus and improve airway clearance.
