KL Dragons is the first team to represent Malaysia in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball league (AirAsia ABL). The AirAsia ABL league is fully endorsed by the South East Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia. They are a professional basketball team established by a joint effort of Malaysia’s very own young successful entrepreneurs who have a passion for

sports, Mr. Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, Dato’ Wira Dani Daim and Dato’ Sri Robin Tan Yeong Ching. KL Dragons or now known as Westports Malaysia Dragons’ long-term vision is to create regional platform of high performance sports and as a self-sustaining professional team in Malaysia. In order to achieve such a feat, KL Dragons will be investing into facilities, infrastructure and players development to build and create an entertainment entity around basketball to be the second most popular sport in Malaysia next to football. Quoting from Dato’ Wira Dani Daim, who envisions a future for youths picking up basketball as a profession, “We will be creating another avenue for kids to participate in a healthy lifestyle and sports by giving them a target and show should they strive to rise to the top, they can eventually play the game they love as professional players”. With teams from 4 other different countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, KL Dragons sees this as a good opportunity to bring international experience in developing the youth of Kuala Lumpur and also Malaysia.

What started as a 𝑐𝑜𝑎𝑐ℎ-𝑎𝑛𝑑-𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑦𝑒𝑟 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝 over a decade ago has now become a story of growth, mentorship, and success.

𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐉𝐞𝐭 was once coached by 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐨 from 2014–2021, throughout his primary and secondary school years. Today, both stand on the sidelines as coaches at one of Malaysia’s biggest youth basketball tournaments.

Representing different teams, yet sharing the same passion for developing young athletes, both coaches achieved impressive results at the 60th MABA-MATRIX 17 & Below National Basketball Championship 2026.
