It is with deepest sadness we announce the death of our little fighter, Mehm, who had a heart surgery 4 months ago through our TGHP project.

Mehm was a bright child who was always cheerful, playful, and had a beautiful smile.

This news came to us as a shock when he was admitted again at IJN due to worsening of his heart.

His surgery was supposed to be done when he was at younger age, but unfortunately no one knew of his heart condition until 2019. By that time, the repair was too risky, and several consultation were done with the parents to ensure they understood the risks involved. The parents wanted to take any chance they can get, and so the surgery went on as planned. But nothing in this life is in our control. We all did what we can, and god loved him more!

We send our deepest condolences to his family and community.

✨Project Ending Ceremony✨ of the Tiny Gold Hearts Project (TGHP)

TGHP started in 2019 with the aim of providing medical services to all refugee children with congenital heart diseases in Malaysia. Since then, we have helped save the lives of 15 children, who now are living a happy and healthy life, and have fundraised over 1 Million Ringgit for their cost of treatments and surgeries. This was all possible with your support and prayers! 💐

As the project is coming to an end, we are organizing this ceremony to show appreciation for all of our donors, surgeons, partners, and supporters for making our work possible. The children will also be attending the event together with their families. There will be exciting performances by invited guests, as well as a video showcase, theatre performance, and delicious refreshments prepared by refugee chefs! 🎤🎼🎨🎭🎺🎸

After many complications, Mehm has been discharged today. Here is a video of him thanking all of you for all the kind contributions and support. He will have to follow up for ENT therapy at HKL, but that will be for another day. We will announce the final tally and final bill soon. We are now stopping the fundraising efforts for Mehm.

25/2/2022

Mehm was planned for a discharge yesterday and all was well until at about 12 noon when he went through a respiratory distress and had to be wheeled in to ICU for further tests. We have yet to receive full report on his welfare and would like to ask everyone to send in a little prayer for Little Mehm. May he pull through this challenge and stabilise soon.

As of Wednesday 23rd Feb, the bill for Mehm's heart surgery has reached RM139,179.05. We have raised RM70k from the previous campaign and have paid it to IJN as a deposit (based on the initial quotation). However, due to post-surgery complications, extra stay at the ICU, and ECMO machine supply, the bill has increased. We have managed to raise another RM47,489.93 since the second campaign, and we still need another RM21,689.12 to pay the full bill.

As of 8am today, the bill for Mehm's heart surgery has reached RM131,238.40. We have raised RM70k from the previous campaign and have paid it to IJN as a deposit (based on the initial qoutation). However, due to post-surgery complications, extra stay at the ICU, and ECMO machine supply, the bill has increased by an additional of RM61k.

Mehm Layih Ong has went through his surgery on Monday 7th February at IJN. The surgery was more extensive than originally expected. Instead of just repairing the supravalvular aortic stenosis, doctors also had to repair the aortic arch, neck vessels and also repair the opening of the coronary arteries. After almost 10 hours of surgery, Mehm heart had to be supported by a mechanical support (ECMO) and is now in ICU for the past two days.

The good news is that Mehm is off the mechanical heart support (ECMO) yesterday. However, the extensive unexpected surgery complications and being on heart support has escalated the medical costs to be more than our estimated cost.

As of today, the bill has came up to RM104, 304.00 and will be more at final discharge. On the first run, we have collected RM 70,000. We are currently raising funds to assist with the unprecedented cost.

Please help to save his life. We are so close to the finishing line. Even RM1 or RM5 makes a huge impact!

Mehm has been admitted at Institute Jantung Negara and will have his heart surgery on Monday 7th Feb! Please keep him in your prayers. The surgery is complicated and risky, but Mehm is very strong and with all of your love and support, he can go through this. ❤️

RM70K has been raised from the campaign and have been deposited into IJN. Fingers crossed and praying all goes well for this little fighter ❤️ 💪🏻

Update on Baby Niang and Baby Sahat
4 January 2022

Both Baby Niang and Baby Sahat had a successful heart surgery on 21st December 2021 at IJN. The surgery went very well and no complications arise post-operation. Niang and Sahat stayed in the recovery ward for a few weeks. Niang was discharged on 29 December and Sahat was discharged on 30th December. They are both now safely home with their parents. Total paid for Niang is RM59,447.50 and for Sahat RM61,079.35.
