💄 Seoul Beauty Week 2026 has wrapped at Dongdaemun Design Plaza – and it gave a very clear picture of where K-beauty is going next.

From 22 to 25 August, 152 beauty companies filled every zone of DDP (the first edition had just 52!), drawing about 48,000 visitors and 116 overseas buyers from 48 countries for one-on-one export meetings. The standouts: queues at indie skincare booths, soothing and cooling serums on almost every table, and derma and aesthetic brands right next to everyday cosmetics.

Korea's cosmetics exports reached USD 11.4 billion in 2025 – and small brands now make up more than 72% of that. Expect even more K-beauty on our shelves.

Our take for skincare brand owners: win on what an import can't offer – halal-ready formulas, textures made for our humid climate, and quicker restocks. Planning a K-beauty-inspired range? Let's talk formulation 👉 https://www.orizigroup.com/seoul-beauty-week-2026-k-beauty-export-push-malaysian-brands/

Seoul Beauty Week 2026 drew 152 exhibitors and 116 overseas buyers to DDP. Our reading as a Malaysian OEM: what Korea's SME-led export model means for local brand owners, plus a route-by-route decision table.

Good news from the Ipoh plant: we've passed The Walt Disney Company's International Labor Standards audit and are now a Disney FAMA-authorised facility. âś…

It's an audit of how we treat our people — the same things a SMETA audit checks — and it means licensees of Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars brands can manufacture with us without starting the factory approval from scratch.

A French ingredient supplier has just relaunched a nine-year-old eye-care active with exactly one change: they took the preservative out.

Gattefosse announced Gatuline Link n Lift PF on 14 August 2026. Same horse chestnut flower extract, same INCI, same 2% use level, same two-week clinical story. Just no preservative in the drum.

Here is the part that gets lost between a marketing brief and a bench sheet: a preservative-free ingredient does not make a preservative-free cream. At 2%, the other 98% of the formula still has to be preserved, and that decision now sits entirely with whoever makes the product.

We are evaluating this one, not formulating with it yet. But it already changed how we would write the goods-in paperwork. A drum that arrives without a preservative needs its own handling rules, its own opened-container life and its own acceptance criteria, not the ones quietly copied across from the old grade.

So if "preservative-free" is on your brief, budget for more testing, not less.

Our full write-up, including the questions we would send the supplier first:

"Can we put all five of these in one bottle?"

It is the question we hear most on a hybrid brief, and the answer is usually about pH rather than ambition.

Every active works inside a window. Pure vitamin C needs a strongly acidic environment to be absorbed at all. A lot of peptides and botanical systems prefer conditions closer to neutral. Those windows do not overlap, so there is no compromise setting that serves both. There is only one that serves one of them and quietly wastes the other.

And here is the part worth knowing as a shopper too: an ingredient that cannot work at a formula's conditions is still on the label. It is not a false ingredient list. It is just not doing very much.

The oil phase is the other squeeze. UV filters, emollients and fragrance all share that space, and it is finite. Push the SPF up and the light texture goes down.

When our team hands back a five-function brief as three products, it is not a lack of appetite. It is that the overlap was empty. Two or three compatible functions is where hybrids genuinely deliver.

Where do your skincare products actually come from? 🧴

We spent 8–9 September at QIU Industry Day 2026, Quest International University Ipoh, showing students exactly that — real product formats on the table, real talk about how a cosmetics OEM factory works, and the many careers behind every jar: chemists, QA analysts, production planners, brand builders.

The best part? Seeing future beauty scientists realise this industry is hiring right here in Perak. ✨

"Skin that looks up to four years younger in a month." That is the headline on one of 2026's most-discussed new skincare actives — Ashland's eternight™ biofunctional.

Read the supplier's own product page a little further and there is a second number, in brackets: an average of 1.2 years, measured with an AI facial scan tool.

Both numbers are Ashland's. Only one of them is what a finished formula has to deliver.

Our lab has been evaluating this ingredient as part of our routine review of new actives. We have not manufactured with it. But even before a technical data sheet arrives, the ingredient declaration already tells us something practical — water, propanediol, glycerin and Iris pallida root extract. That is a humectant-carried, water-phase active, and in a night cream it changes how the product feels, not just what it claims.

In our experience that is where the surprise usually lands: not in the science, but in the texture at pilot scale.

The full write-up, including the seven things we would ask the supplier before quoting a formula: https://www.orizigroup.com/what-the-inci-tells-us-before-the-data-sheet-does-our-first-look-at-eternight/

"Can we just do a leave-on version of our anti-dandruff shampoo?"

It sounds like a small change. In the lab it usually isn't, and here's why.

The format decides which actives you're allowed to use. Zinc pyrithione — the anti-dandruff ingredient most people can name — is permitted in ASEAN in rinse-off hair products only, up to 1.0%. Move the idea into a leave-on serum and it's simply off the table. The EU has banned it in cosmetics since 1 March 2022 as well, so a formula built around it can't travel there.

The wording matters just as much. In Malaysia a product may say it "controls, reduces or prevents dandruff" — but not that it "permanently eliminates" it. It may say it "helps strengthen or nourish the hair root" — but not that it "stimulates hair growth".

Our colleague Fenny Yip has written about how one scalp brief usually becomes two products, and which decisions are worth making before development starts:

💄 Vietbeauty & Cosmobeauté Vietnam 2026 has just wrapped in Ho Chi Minh City — the biggest edition the show has staged.

750+ exhibitors from 25 countries, 3,500+ brands, and a record 17,600 sqm at SECC over 23–25 July. Three things stood out on the cosmetics side: Beautycare Plus ran as a full supply-chain zone covering ingredients, packaging, OEM/ODM and private label; the new Cosmobeauté Live Zone put livestream selling right on the show floor; and compliance — product notification, ingredient documentation, IP — took main-stage time at Beauté Talks 2026.

For anyone building a skincare or colour range, the message is simple: sourcing, content and compliance now have to be planned together, not one after the other. The dossier you prepare for one ASEAN market carries most of the way into the next one.

Vietbeauty & Cosmobeauté Vietnam 2026 filled a record 17,600 sqm at SECC. We read three signals in it that change how Malaysian brand owners should scope an OEM project.
