1️⃣ Palliative Care(缓和医疗/纾缓治疗)
2️⃣ Prehabilitation(治疗前预康复)
Palliative Care?
Patrick
医疗不应该只看见病人所患的疾病,而是要看见一个完整的人——see the patient as a whole。

Cancer care is not only about treating the disease. It is also about seeing the person as a whole.
On Day 2 of NCCM 2026, Pharmacist Patrick brought back two important concepts:
1️⃣ Palliative Care
2️⃣ Prehabilitation
First, what is Palliative Care?
Many people assume that palliative care means treatment has stopped.
In reality, palliative care does not mean giving up, and it is not limited to the final stage of life.
It can be provided alongside cancer treatment to help relieve pain, breathlessness, nausea, fatigue and emotional distress—while supporting the quality of life of both patients and their families.
Healthcare is not only about how long a patient lives. We should also care about their comfort, dignity and quality of life throughout treatment.
The second concept is Prehabilitation.
If major surgery or cancer treatment is a challenging journey, prehabilitation is about preparing the body before that journey begins.
Depending on the patient’s needs, this may include:
✓ Nutritional support
✓ Appropriate exercise
✓ Psychological and emotional support
✓ Lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking or reducing alcohol
The aim is not to turn patients into athletes. It is to help improve their physical fitness, strength and nutritional status so that they may be better prepared for treatment and recovery.
Patrick’s biggest takeaway today was this:
Healthcare should not only focus on the disease. We need to see the patient as a whole.
Beyond the diagnosis, test results and treatment, we should also consider the patient’s physical strength, nutrition, emotional well-being, personal goals and quality of life.
At the same time, caregivers and family members are also walking through this journey. They face their own pressures and challenges and need reliable information, emotional care and practical support too.
During treatment, we should care about the quality of life of both patients and their families. Before treatment begins, we can also help patients prepare physically and emotionally for the journey ahead.
