The Postnatal Period
In Ayurveda, a 5000 year old Indian healing tradition, the postnatal period is considered a delicate time for mothers, especially for the digestive system focusing on simple digestible foods. Traditionally, mothers are given hot oil massages daily, they are given special foods that are prepared with special herbs and spices and some herbal drinks to promote healing, boost their immunity and improve milk supply. The Indian postnatal care is based on ancient Ayurverdic methods of herbal baths, postnatal massage, nourishing herbal-based foods as well as belly binding being a part of the postpartum care.
According to the olden Ayurverdic tradition, the postnatal period is meant for mothers to recuperate after childbirth. According to ritual, mothers stay at home for approximately 30- 40 days which is known as the confinement period.
In these modern times, the practice of early postnatal custom has been overshadowed by the Western healthcare. This is due to the modern medical practitioners whereby certain restrictions and practices are not backed by science. However, there are still many mothers who still believe in the Ayurverdic postnatal care which has literally been passed down by generations. The idea of Spice Sutra’s Postnatal blend is to awaken the almost fading Ayurverdic healing tradition. This blend is suitable for any custom & tradition during the confinement period that would like the taste of curried cuisine
Spice Sutra Postnatal Spice & Herbs
Warming herbs and spices are a wonderful food supporter for recovery after birth. These combination of postnatal spices have long been used for their medicinal and culinary qualities.
The selection of herbs and spices for this blend
provides the building blocks which allows the body to heal
damaged tissues
resolve inflammation after childbirth
Rebuild hormones which is crucial after childbirth because the
female hormone is usually the reason behind the common
symptoms experienced such as post-natal depression, fatigue,
anxiety and even insomnia.
The post-baby abdomen requires time to delicately settle back
into place. This is also the time to reignite the intestinal tract
because it tends to be slower during postnatal period.
Modern mothers are usually overwhelmed by the weight they
put on after giving birth and tend to move on to a diet routine
right after childbirth. This is ultimately a disaster that they
could create on their health over time. Fortunately, this spice
blend increases the metabolism and naturally burns unwanted
fats that are stored around the belly.
The use of various spices will eliminate toxins as well as
ensures a smooth flow of period during this time.
Besides that, certain herbs used will boost the mother’s milk
supply naturally
Plus the womb & delicate area of the mother will eventually be
tightened for mothers who went through normal childbirth
(without caesarean).
