Pineapples are more than just a sweet, sunny fruit.

From their fascinating botanical makeup to their cultural significance during Chinese New Year, pineapples carry stories, symbolism and nutrition in every bite. In this article for Free Malaysia Today, I explore where pineapples come from, why they’re associated with prosperity, and what they really offer nutritionally — from vitamin C and fibre to the much-talked-about bromelain enzyme.

If you’ve ever wondered how pineapple fits into a balanced diet, how best to enjoy it, or why food is so deeply tied to tradition and meaning, this read is for you.

Food doesn’t just nourish the body — it connects us to culture, memory and joy.

I hope this piece adds a little colour (and clarity) to your plate😀.

Sweet, sunny and steeped in symbolism, the nutritious pineapple can be a healthy addition to your diet as you usher in the new year.
