🌿 Why Clean Air Matters

Clean air is essential for healthier lives and healthier communities.

Air pollution, especially fine particles such as PM2.5, can travel deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of breathing problems, heart disease, stroke and premature death.

We can all help reduce exposure and support cleaner air by checking air quality, limiting outdoor activities when pollution is high, avoiding open burning, improving indoor ventilation and choosing cleaner transport.

🍄 Fungi in the Environment

Fungi are an essential part of our environment. They help decompose organic matter, recycle nutrients and support healthy ecosystems. However, certain fungi can also affect indoor air quality, food safety and human health.

Moisture, humidity, temperature and ventilation can influence fungal growth and spread. Managing these conditions can help reduce potential health risks and create healthier environments.

🌍 Why Do Indoor and Outdoor Environments Affect Human Exposure?

Air pollution exposure does not happen in just one place. Throughout the day, we move between homes, workplaces, schools, vehicles and public spaces.

Our exposure is influenced by pollutant levels, time spent in each environment, ventilation, outdoor pollution entering buildings, indoor emission sources and environmental conditions.

Individual factors such as age, physical activity and occupation can also influence exposure.

Recognising the sources and conditions that shape our daily exposure can help support cleaner air, healthier spaces and better public health.

What Exactly Are Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)? ⚡️

EMFs are areas of energy associated with electricity and electronic devices. From power lines and household appliances to mobile phones, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, EMFs are part of our everyday environment.

EMFs are generally grouped into two categories:

🔹 Ionizing radiation: Higher-energy radiation, such as X-rays, that can damage cells and DNA depending on the dose of exposure.

🔹 Non-ionizing radiation: Lower-energy radiation associated with technologies such as mobile phones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microwaves. Everyday low-level exposure within established safety guidelines is not known to cause harm. However, exposure level and duration remain important considerations, and research into long-term exposure continues.

As technology becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, understanding EMFs and supporting continued scientific research can help strengthen public awareness.

🔥 Indonesia’s Fires: When Smoke Becomes a Health Threat

Forest and land fires do more than damage ecosystems. The smoke can release harmful PM2.5 particles that travel across regions and borders, affecting air quality and public health.

More than 107,000 hectares burned in Indonesia from January to June 2026, with most fires linked to human activities and intensified by dry conditions.

PM2.5 can pe*****te deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of serious health effects, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Protect your health. Wear a mask when air quality is poor and reduce your exposure to harmful air pollution.

Did you know that carbon monoxide reduces your blood’s ability to carry oxygen?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless and dangerous gas that poses a significant risk to human health. When inhaled, it reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen, limiting the oxygen delivered to vital organs.

Carbon monoxide is produced during the incomplete combustion of fuels. As it cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, exposure can occur without warning. Adequate ventilation, proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances, and greater awareness of CO hazards are essential to reducing the risk of exposure and protecting public health.

🏠 Household Air Pollution

Billions of people still rely on polluting fuels and technologies for cooking, contributing to household air pollution and exposing families to harmful pollutants.

Indoor air quality matters. Cleaner cooking solutions, proper ventilation, and greater awareness can help reduce exposure and support healthier homes.
