“Just lose weight.”

Many patients with lipedema and lymphedema hear this for years.

But these conditions are not simply about body fat or lifestyle.

They are medical diseases involving abnormal fat distribution and lymphatic dysfunction.

During my training in Vienna, lipedema and lymphedema were treated daily. It was there that I saw how many patients around the world spend years being misunderstood before receiving the correct diagnosis.

One thing the public should understand:

Treating cosmetic fat is not the same as treating lipedema or lymphedema.

These conditions require specialized medical knowledge and careful surgical techniques that respect the lymphatic system.

March is Lymphedema Awareness Month.

Awareness matters.
Because patients deserve proper diagnosis, proper treatment, and dignity in care.

The Hype of the “Chanel” Injection

Despite its name, the “Chanel Injection” has no association with the luxury fashion brand.

It is a popular nickname for NCTF® 135 HA, a medical skin booster that gained international recognition for improving skin quality through cellular nutrition and dermal support.

As with any medical treatment, this procedure carries potential risks, even though the incidence of adverse events is low when performed correctly and under appropriate medical standards.

For this reason, it is essential that:
• The treatment is performed by a licensed and properly credentialed medical practitioner
• The product used is approved by the Medical Device Authority (MDA) and registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA)
• Proper clinical assessment, documentation, and product traceability are in place

Any adverse event — however rare — must be recognised early, documented, and managed appropriately. This is how medical science progresses and how patient safety is optimised.

This treatment is not a beauty service.

It is a medical procedure, and it should be treated as such.

🌜🍽️Let’s Talk Rare: Dinner Talk🍽️🌛

Last night’s event was one of the most refreshingly curated academic gatherings I’ve attended. A full 3-course dinner, served thoughtfully between sessions, while patients, families, advocates, and clinicians shared their stories and expertise. It was intimate, honest, and deeply human.

I spoke about lipedema—the often misunderstood disease that leaves many women dismissed as “just fat”—and shared the lived experiences of my patients who battle pain, stigma, and misdiagnosis for years before finally receiving answers.

During the closing segment, each speaker was invited to share one word that encapsulates our experience working with rare disorder patients.

I chose: Support.

Because support isn’t just medical.

It is family support, societal support, policy support, and community support.

Physicians meet patients for an hour at a time—but the people who are around them through the hardest days are the ones who stand beside them for a lifetime.

It was also my first time learning in depth about the Malaysian Rare Disorders Society — a truly crucial organisation helping build a more compassionate Malaysia. A Malaysia that sees individuals beyond their diagnoses, and recognises their aspirations, dignity, and humanity.

And a special note to the students:
In an era where AI will democratise information, it is your creativity, empathy, and ability to move as humans that will set you apart. Watching how thoughtfully and innovatively this event was put together… I can say the future of healthcare is in good hands.

How many of us here know or aware about Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day in the month of Pink October?

So glad to be spending the afternoon giving a Health Talk with the ladies of Pos Malaysia National Centre in conjunction with Pink October 💕

When it comes to breast reconstruction after cancer, there is no single “right” path. For some women, choosing not to reconstruct is the right decision. For others, restoring one of the most symbolic parts of womanhood helps reclaim confidence and wholeness.

What matters is not whether we choose conservative care or reconstruction — what matters is that the choice remains ours. The only wrong path is when society, doctors, or even loved ones impose their view of what’s “right” onto others.

That is why the BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day ribbon is drawn as a double ribbon — to close the loop and symbolize that true healing is only complete when women are empowered with informed choices.
