“When should I start chiropractic during pregnancy?” — Here’s the answer broken down by trimester.

There’s no single right time to start. Because the role chiropractic plays actually shifts with each stage of your pregnancy.

🟣 First Trimester (Weeks 1–12) This is about FOUNDATION. We establish pelvic balance early — before compensation patterns set in. Technique is adapted immediately for pregnancy.

🟢 Second Trimester (Weeks 13–27) Your belly is growing, your pelvis is expanding, and your SI joints are under increasing load. Round ligament tension, hip pain, and lower back changes tend to begin here. We address these early so they don’t compound into the third trimester.

🔴 Third Trimester (Weeks 28–40) Most people wait until now to start — and we can absolutely still help. At this stage, the focus shifts to birth preparation: pelvic balance, sacrum mobility, and creating the best possible space for your baby to move into an optimal position before delivery.

Wherever you are in your pregnancy — it’s not too early, and it’s not too late.

If you’ve noticed a flat spot on your baby’s head — you’ve probably been told one of two things. Either “it’ll round out on its own” or “wait and see at the next checkup.”

Sometimes that’s true. But here’s what happens when it doesn’t resolve.

When one side of the skull stays flat, the head doesn’t just remain that way — it begins to compensate. The ear shifts forward. The jaw moves. The eye socket changes position. What started as a head shape concern gradually becomes a facial symmetry concern. And facial asymmetry is significantly harder to address the older your child gets.

Here’s what’s also worth knowing — a flat spot almost always develops because baby is consistently favouring one side. Not because of bad sleep position. Because of tension in the neck and upper spine that’s pulling them that way. Until that tension is addressed, repositioning alone often isn’t enough to make lasting change.

This is what we assess in clinic — both the head shape and the underlying neck tension contributing to it. Treating both together is what produces real, lasting results.

The earlier you come in, the faster the results. But if your baby is already a few months old — it’s still absolutely worth coming in. Earlier means faster. Later still means something.

If your baby has:
→ A flat or uneven spot on the head
→ A strong preference for turning to one side
→ One ear sitting further forward than the other
→ Difficulty latching on one breast

— BOOK a cranial assessment sooner rather than later.

Your round ligaments are like two little ropes holding your growing uterus in place. As baby grows, those ligaments stretch — and sometimes they spasm, which is where that quick “zap” comes from.

The good news? It’s not dangerous to you or baby. A few things that can help:
✨ Move a little slower, especially when changing positions
✨ Support your bump when standing up or rolling over
✨ Try gentle pelvic tilts or a warm compress
✨ A maternity support belt can take pressure off the ligaments

If the pain is severe, constant, or comes with fever, bleeding, or nausea — that’s your cue to call your provider, not push through it.

Save this for your second/third trimester self 💛 And if round ligament pain has been slowing you down, prenatal chiropractic care can help take pressure off those overstretched ligaments — we’d love to help.

Left-side sleeping takes pressure off the inferior vena cava, the major blood vessel that runs behind your uterus, improving circulation to your baby and placenta. That’s the reason behind the recommendation.

But here’s what that advice doesn’t cover:

If you’re waking up constantly, rolling to your back or right side, or your hips are aching no matter what position you’re in — that’s a pelvic alignment issue, not a willpower issue.

When the pelvis is restricted, your body can’t distribute pressure evenly across the joints and soft tissues. So it shifts. Constantly. Looking for relief it can’t quite find.

When we address pelvic balance through chiropractic care — specifically the sacrum and hip joints — most mamas find they can not only get into a comfortable position, but actually stay there through the night.

You’re not doing it wrong. Your body just needs support.

💾 Save this if sleep has been the hardest part of your pregnancy.

Our favourite personal trainer came in with persistent wrist pain that had been stopping him from doing what he does best — training. Not just his own sessions, but his ability to demonstrate movements for his clients.

For someone whose hands are their tools, wrist pain isn’t just uncomfortable. It’s a career problem.

We used shockwave therapy to target the affected tendons — delivering high-energy acoustic waves directly to the tissue to stimulate healing, break down scar tissue, and reduce pain at the source.

No needles. No downtime. And for chronic tendon issues especially, the evidence behind shockwave is genuinely strong.

The results spoke for themselves. He was back to full training and coaching — wrists doing exactly what they needed to do.

If you’re dealing with stubborn tendon pain that hasn’t responded to rest or other treatment, this might be worth a conversation.

Drop a 🙋 below if you’ve dealt with wrist or elbow tendon pain that just wouldn’t go away. 💙

Back pain and pelvic pain during pregnancy is something I see every single day in clinic — and the question I get asked most is: “Is this normal? Do I just have to live with it?”

My answer is always the same.

Yes, some discomfort is expected as your body adapts — your pelvis is shifting, your ligaments are loosening, your centre of gravity is changing week by week. That part is normal.

But pain that disrupts your sleep, makes it hard to walk, or gets worse as your pregnancy progresses? That’s your body asking for support — and that’s something we can actually help with.

Prenatal chiropractic focuses on keeping the pelvis balanced and mobile throughout pregnancy. When that foundation is stable, a lot of things improve — how you move, how you rest, and how your body prepares for birth.

You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through nine months.

A lot of mums in their third trimester start wondering about baby’s position — and whether it’ll make labour easier or harder.

Here’s what’s worth knowing: some positions tend to make labour feel smoother, while others can mean a longer process and more back pain along the way.

Why does this happen? Often, it’s about space. When the pelvis is a little uneven, or the ligaments around the uterus are under uneven tension, baby settles wherever’s most comfortable for them — which isn’t always the most ideal position for birth.

This is where pelvic balance plays a role. Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on supporting your pelvis and the surrounding structures, so your body is offering baby the most open, even space possible.
You can’t force a position. But you can absolutely support the conditions that make a good one more likely.

Save this if you’re heading into your final weeks. 💛

The third trimester hits differently.

Suddenly you’re breathless walking to the kitchen. Reflux at 11pm. Hip pain at 2am. Rolling over in bed takes a full three-point turn. And everyone keeps saying “enjoy it, it’ll be over soon” — which is technically true but not particularly helpful when your pelvic joints are on fire.

Here’s what’s actually happening in your body from week 28 onward:
Your uterus has taken over your abdominal cavity. Your organs — including lungs and stomach — have relocated upward. Your baby is now heavy enough to create real load through your pelvis and hips with every step. Your gait has changed. Your nervous system is running at full capacity.

Every single thing you’re feeling has a reason. None of it is weakness.

And none of it means you just have to white-knuckle your way to your due date.

The third trimester is when your body needs the most support — pelvic alignment, nervous system care, and people around you who actually understand what this season involves.

Drop a week number below if you’re in it right now. 💛 We see you.
