🌧️ RAINY DAYS AFTER SCHOOL: HELPING CHILDREN REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS 💛
Rainy afternoons can look a little different. After a busy day at school, children may come home feeling tired, overstimulated, hungry or simply disappointed that they can’t play outside. This can sometimes make those big feelings even bigger.
Instead of focusing only on stopping the behaviour, try focusing on what your child’s body and emotions might need. 💕
✨ A few simple tips to try after school:
🌱 Give them a calm transition from school to home
🍎 Offer a nourishing snack and some water
🏃 Encourage safe indoor movement
🎨 Have a few rainy-day activities ready
🧸 Create a cosy space for calming down
🧘 Practise calming strategies together
📱 Balance screen time with movement, play and connection
🍪 Get them involved in simple everyday activities
📖 Create a peaceful wind-down routine
❤️ Most importantly, be patient and present
Remember: children don’t need us to eliminate their big emotions — they need us to help them understand, manage and move through them.
And sometimes, the best rainy-day activity is simply being together. ☔️🫶
