Primary Immunodeficiency Namibia

Primary Immunodeficiency Namibia Your immune system helps your body fight infections. People with primary immunodeficiency (PI) have an immune system that does not work correctly.

Which means that people with PI are more likely to become very sick from infections.

As we close World Primary Immunodeficiency Week, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped amplify this important message.

A special thank you to Dr Steffan Bau for his insightful contribution, and to Namibian Broadcasting Corporation - Good Morning Namibia show, families, and our wider community for helping share awareness far and wide. Your support has made a meaningful impact in bringing primary immunodeficiencies into the spotlight.

This is only the beginning. Letโ€™s continue to take hands and build on this momentum, making it even bigger next year by inviting universities to collaborate in research, education, and advocacy.

Thank you all for being part of this journey during World PI Week IPOPI PiNSA

As we close World Primary Immunodeficiency Week, the message is clear:

Primary Immunodeficiency can no longer remain unseen or misunderstood in Namibia. Too many lives are affected by delayed diagnosis and limited awareness.

Now is the time for stronger action
๐Ÿ“ greater public awareness,
๐Ÿ“ better access to diagnosis,
๐Ÿ“ committed support from policymakers.

Together, we can ensure no one with PI is left behind.

An URGENT Message!

Primary Immunodeficiency is real, underdiagnosed, and affecting both children and adults across Namibia. Greater awareness, early diagnosis, and access to proper care can save lives.

We call on communities, healthcare leaders, and policymakers to prioritize PIโ€”because stronger support today means healthier futures for Namibia tomorrow.

๐ŸŒWorld PI Week kicks off today!

World PI Week raises awareness about Primary Immunodeficiencies (PI)โ€”a group of conditions where the immune system does not function properly, leaving individuals more vulnerable to infections.

For Namibia, taking note is crucial. Increased awareness can lead to earlier diagnosis, better access to treatment, and stronger support systems for those affected. Recognizing PI also helps reduce stigma and ensures that no one faces these conditions without understanding and care.

By spreading knowledge and strengthening our healthcare response, we can improve lives and build a healthier Namibia for all. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’™

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week is a global campaign held each November to raise awareness about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. AMR happens when germs like bacteria and viruses stop responding to medicines, making infections harder to treat.

The week encourages responsible use of antimicrobials, better infection prevention, and global cooperation to protect the effectiveness of lifesaving medicines for the future.

As a patient advocate for Primary Immunodeficiencies and a mother who's son daily diet was antibiotics (to his disadvantage) over time, I will be presenting at the Youth Symposium this Thursday at the Hage Geingob Campus - Medical School ๐Ÿ‘†
