Happy Valentine's day warriors.

TGIF!!!! Warriors don't forget to take your prophylaxis against malaria. Most people believe that mosquitoes don't cause problems in the harmattan period but this is false. Malaria when present can cause crises. Prevention is better than cure.

14/12/2023

As the harmattan/winter sets in, don't forget to keep warm and stay hydrated because cold is a very potent trigger for bone pain crises in persons with sickle cell disease.

It's World Tuberculosis Day 2023

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed annually on March 24, a day in the year 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacillus that causes tuberculosis (TB).

TB is a global epidemic, It's spread when a person with active TB disease in their lungs coughs or sneezes and someone else inhales the expelled droplets, which contain TB bacteria.

The risk of infection can be reduced by using a few simple precautions:
*Ensure proper ventilation: as TB can remain suspended in the air for several hours with no ventilation.

*Observe good hygiene: covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing reduces the spread of TB bacteria.

If Cough persist for 2 weeks or more go for TB screening.

SCD AND FATIGUE

Fatigue in sickle cell anemia is said to be as a result of insufficient oxygen reaching muscles and other tissues.

Red blood cells usually live for about 120 days before they need to be replaced. But sickle cells typically die in 10 to 20 days, leaving a shortage of red blood cells (anemia). Without enough red blood cells, the body can't get enough oxygen and this causes fatigue.

Easy Remedy for Fatigue

Low-intensity aerobic exercises are the best options for people with SCD because in the process more oxygen is absorbed. One of these exercises include -Brisk walking or hiking.

Fatigued?
Do well to take a Walk Today💪
