This is one of the reasons you need to plan your pregnancy, and also commence prenatal vitamins before and during pregnancy.

The worst thing that could happen to a pregnant woman in labour is This👇👇👇👇

🚨CORD ROUND THE NECK OF THE FETUS

This is one of the major causes of PROLONGED AND DIFFICULT LABOR🥹.

When a woman goes into labor, the constant rhythmic uterine contractions aids in the "Decent" on your baby into the pelvis.

And, as your baby continues to decend, and it's head continues to make contact with your cervix, it helps your cervix to "DILATE".

So, imagine where a woman is in "Active phase of labor", .......... there's good uterine contraction, but because there's cord tied round the neck of the baby,
.... Even when the baby tries to decend, the cord drags the baby upward again....

This continues to happen as long as the woman is left to continue LABOURING 🥹

And if nothing is done immediately to savage the situation, the "CORD" may end up "Strángling" the fetus and the woman ends up with a dæed baby.

You see!!!!!! The importance of ULTRASOUND SCAN during pregnancy, especially in the FIRST and LAST TRIMESTERS, can Never be overemphasized.

So this New mum came to our Facility today and we observed her baby has "SPINAL BIFIDA", a Neural Tube Defect,

A congenital Abnormality caused by lack of Vitamin B9(folic acid) during the early formative stage of the fetus; that is the first 3 months in utero.

According to her, she started taking her Folic Acid at the 4th month of her pregnancy.🥹🥹

✨SPINAL BIFIDA

Not curable, but treatable.

👉Babies may undergo surgery shortly after birth to close the opening in the spine.

👉Some cases can be operated on during pregnancy (fetal surgery) to reduce complications.

👉Ongoing care may include physiotherapy, mobility aids, bladder/bowel support, and educational assistance.

This is the reason why as Midwives, we advise every woman who is still in her reproductive age to start taking FOLIC ACID 3 months before conception, and 3 Months into the pregnancy.

It'll save your baby from such future truama...
