APHPN National President Dr. Terfa Kene Concludes Impactful 3-Day Working Visit to Kogi State.

The National President of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Dr. Terfa Kene, recently concluded a productive three-day working visit to Kogi State, marked by strategic engagements aimed at strengthening health systems and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

During the visit, the President Dr. Terfa Kene paid a courtesy visits to the World Health Organization (WHO) Kogi State Office and the Community Initiative for Health Promotion (CIHP) Office, Lokoja, where discussions focused on enhancing collaboration and improving health outcomes across the state.

A major highlight of the visit was his participation as a Guest Speaker at the Kogi State Strategic LGA Dialogue Towards Strengthening Primary Health Care for Universal Health Coverage in Lokoja.

Dr. Terfa Kene delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled:
“The Role of Strategic Leadership in Universal Health Coverage (UHC): From Policy to Action.”
The event brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, including representatives of the Kogi State Government, APHPN Kogi State branch representatives, health policymakers, development partners, local government leaders, and public health professionals committed to strengthening primary health care services across the state.

In furtherance of APHPN's commitment to mentoring the next generation of health professionals, the President APHPN Dr.Terfa Kene also engaged with staff and medical students of the College of Health Sciences, Federal University Lokoja, sharing valuable insights on leadership, public health practice, and career development.

The visit also provided an opportunity for productive interactions with the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA), Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza, and other key health sector leaders, reinforcing partnerships critical to achieving sustainable health improvements in Kogi State.

The visit underscored APHPN's dedication to fostering strategic partnerships, promoting evidence-based leadership, and supporting efforts toward achieving equitable and accessible healthcare for all Nigerians.

📍 APHPN President Dr. Terfa Kene Visit Kogi State

The President of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Dr. Terfa Kene, commenced a 3-day presidential working visit to Kogi State on 8th June 2026, aimed at strengthening collaboration, advancing public health initiatives, and engaging key stakeholders in the state's health sector.

As part of the visit, Dr.Terfa Kene paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Kogi State, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adieza, where discussions focused on strengthening primary healthcare, PHC Adoption, health systems development, and improving health outcomes for the people of Kogi State.

The President Dr. Terfa Kene was accompanied by a distinguished team including:
Dr. Ayo Olayemi, CMD, Kogi State Hospital Management Board
Dr. Francis Akpa, Director of Public Health
Dr. Zakari Usman, Senior Technical Assistant to the Governor on Health Systems Strengthening and Primary Healthcare

During the visit, Dr. Terfa Kene also met with the immediate past Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Zakari Usman, and the Executive Secretary of KOSACA, Dr. Monday Ajodo, as part of efforts to foster stronger partnerships for public health advancement in the state.

*APHPN joins FG, UN Agencies and other Stakeholders for the official launch of EU Support for Public Health Institutions in Nigeria (EU-SPIN)*
I delivered a good will message on behalf of the BOT Chairman and entire members of the APHPN family at the official launch of the EU Support to Public Health Institutions in Nigeria (EU SPIN) project yesterday 11th May 2026.

*This is a £4.2 million EU support to Government of Nigeria.*

It is focus on supporting NHIA, NCDC, NPHCDA etc at the national, state and LGAs levels.

*The message was focus on investment in Human Resources for Health using a manufacturing pipeline approach.*

At the moment the the healthcare workforce is a floating target and we must produce, support and manage distribution.

We look forward to signing MoUs with UN agencies to institutionalize partnership for the benefit of all members, our constituency and Nigeria at large.

*We are guided by the principle of Innovation for Common Good.*

The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) and the Gift Lupus Foundation have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening national efforts toward improved awareness, education, advocacy, and clinical care for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and other types of Lupus in Nigeria and across Africa.

The signing ceremony took place at the APHPN National Secretariat in Abuja and marks a significant milestone in collaborative public health efforts targeted at addressing autoimmune disorders, particularly lupus, which remains widely underdiagnosed and poorly understood in many parts of the country.

The MoU was signed by the President of APHPN, Dr Terfa Kene, on behalf of the association, while Mrs Lovette Ikongo, Founder of the Gift Lupus Foundation Abuja, signed on behalf of Gift lupus foundation.
It's geared towards common good for public Health in Nigeria.

📍The National Leadership of APHPN led by Dr Terfa Kene and accompanied by Dr Augustine Ajogwu, Dr Juliette Ango, Prof O. Wright and APHPN FCT (Dr Okoh and Dr Adegboye) had a breakfast meeting hosted by AFENET on April 17, 2026.

📍The National President, Dr. Terfa Kene, outlined the association’s vision, mission, and ongoing projects and:
- the PHC Adoption
- ACOSEL
- ⁠Collaboration between organizations
- ⁠APHPN/JIVE Journals
- ⁠APHPN Estate
- ⁠APHPN conference 2027
- ⁠Re-registeration of APHPN members LTFU.

📍AFENET leadership; Dr Patrick Nguku and his team were happy to receive the team and responded by encouraging APHPN’s active participation in vaccine safety initiatives, polio campaigns with NPHCDA, Health Security and the appointment of liaison officers to strengthen collaboration.

📍The meeting concluded with a successful partnership between AFENET and APHPN with a formal MOU to be drafted by Dr. Oluwayemisi Adegboye (APHPN), Dr. Nashim, and Dr. Olawumi Adeoye (AFENET).

To mark the World Health day, 2026, with theme *TOGETHER FOR HEALTH* , the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria ablely led by *Dr Terfa Kene* led Members of APHPN, Stakeholders and partners to the ground-breaking ceremony of the APHPN National Secretariat and APHPN Estate.

The ground-breaking was graciously done by Chief Michael Duru Ejiogu FCICN, CEO of City gate homes Abuja. In his remark, he thanked APHPN for the collaboration and promised *Two trailer load of cement* to start the work at the secretariat.

The MD of Solap group also promised due diligence in the subscription and development of the Estate.

The event was witnessed by the President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria and Chairman, APHPN FCT branch.
