RESIDENT DOCTORS TO BEGIN NATIONWIDE STRIKE TUESDAY

The National Association of Resident Doctors has announced plans to commence a nationwide strike on Tuesday over unresolved issues with the Federal Government.

The association said the decision followed a series of failed negotiations on matters relating to welfare, working conditions, and outstanding entitlements.

In a statement, the doctors expressed concern over the lack of progress in addressing their demands, noting that the strike became necessary after giving relevant authorities sufficient time to respond.

The planned action is expected to affect services in public hospitals across the country, potentially disrupting medical care and increasing pressure on other healthcare workers.

Health sector stakeholders have called for urgent dialogue to avert the strike and minimise its impact on patients.

STUDENT NURSE SUSPENDED AFTER EXPOSING POOR CONDITIONS IN ENUGU HOSPITAL

A student nurse has reportedly been suspended after a viral video revealed critical shortages at a general hospital in Enugu State, sparking widespread concern over healthcare conditions.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, allegedly showed the facility operating without electricity, running water, and oxygen supply — essential components required for safe patient care.

Following the release of the video, the student nurse involved was said to have faced disciplinary action, raising questions about whistleblower protection and transparency within the healthcare system.

QUACK PRACTITIONER, NOT A NURSE — COUNCIL CLARIFIES OGUN CORPS MEMBER’S DEATH

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has clarified that the individual linked to the death of a corps member in Ogun State is not a registered nurse, contrary to earlier reports circulating in the media.

In an official position, the council stated that the suspect is not licensed to practice nursing in Nigeria, distancing the nursing profession from the incident.

The case, which has drawn public attention, involves the alleged death of a young corps member following a medical-related procedure. Initial reports had described the suspect as a nurse, raising concerns within the healthcare community.

However, the latest clarification confirms that the individual is not recognized under the regulatory framework governing nursing practice, pointing instead to a case of unlawful medical practice (quackery).

Health experts warn that the presence of unqualified individuals posing as healthcare professionals remains a major threat to patient safety, often leading to preventable complications and fatalities.

Stakeholders have called on authorities to intensify efforts in identifying and prosecuting unlicensed practitioners, while also urging the public to verify the credentials of healthcare providers before receiving treatment.

The development also highlights the need for responsible reporting, as mislabeling unlicensed individuals as “nurses” can undermine public trust in trained and regulated professionals.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

BREAKING: Two Children Die in Kebbi After Alleged Medication Error

Tragedy has struck in Kebbi State following the death of two young sisters after reportedly receiving wrong injections during treatment at a health facility.

The victims, aged 3 and 6, were said to have been taken to the hospital for medical care when the incident occurred. Shortly after the administration of the injections, their condition deteriorated, leading to their deaths.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident, with two nurses currently in police custody as inquiries continue to determine what exactly went wrong.

Initial reports suggest a possible medication error, though officials emphasize that the case is still under investigation and no final conclusions have been reached.

The incident has raised serious concerns about patient safety, medication administration, and supervision within healthcare facilities, especially in high-pressure environments.

Health professionals have called for calm, urging the public to allow due process while also highlighting the need for stronger systems, proper checks, and continuous training to prevent such occurrences.

BREAKING: Nurses’ Families Fear Separation Amid UK Immigration Crackdown

A new survey has revealed growing concerns among international nurses in the United Kingdom, as many fear their families could be torn apart due to stricter immigration policies.

The findings highlight that recent visa restrictions and policy changes may prevent healthcare workers from bringing dependents, creating emotional strain and uncertainty for nurses already working under pressure.

Health sector leaders warn that these policies could worsen the ongoing nursing shortage, as many foreign-trained nurses reconsider working or remaining in the UK.
For many nurses, the issue is no longer just about work — it is about family, stability, and the future.

BREAKING: Ekiti Court Sentences Quack Nurse to Death by Hanging

A High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State has sentenced a man posing as a healthcare professional to death by hanging after he was found guilty of murder.

The convict, identified as Olatide Temitope Emmanuel, was said to have falsely presented himself as a medical practitioner and carried out a surgical procedure during childbirth which resulted in the death of a woman identified as Bosede Falade.

Delivering judgment, Justice Jubril Aladejana of the Ekiti State High Court ruled that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, sentencing the defendant to death by hanging for murder.

The case has sparked renewed concerns over the activities of unlicensed medical practitioners, with health experts warning that quackery continues to pose serious risks to patient safety.

Authorities have urged members of the public to seek medical care only from qualified and licensed health professionals in accredited health facilities.

BREAKING: NAUTH Nursing Students Protest Fee Hike

Students of the College of Nursing Sciences at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, have staged a protest following a sudden and significant increase in tuition fees.

Videos circulating online show nursing students chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards while demanding an immediate review of the new fee structure. The students described the increase as excessive and called on the management of the institution to reconsider the decision.

Reports indicate that the fee adjustment sparked widespread concern among students, many of whom fear the new charges could make it difficult for them to continue their nursing education.

In response to the situation, the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital has reportedly begun engaging with the students to address their concerns and seek a possible resolution.

The protest highlights growing concerns among nursing students in Nigeria over the rising cost of professional training.

LAUTECH Accused of Withholding Nurse’s Certificate After Whistleblowing Allegations

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has been accused of refusing to issue a BSc Nursing certificate to Nurse Olamide Thomas after she allegedly exposed negligence within the institution that was linked to the deaths of several nursing students.

The allegation was raised by the Socialist Workers League (SWL), which criticised the university’s actions and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of her certificate.

According to the group, Nurse Thomas — who serves as the National Coordinator of the Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) — has been active in advocating for the rights of nurses and nursing students, including raising concerns about alleged violations of labour rights, student welfare issues, and institutional negligence.

The organisation also called for an independent investigation into the reported deaths of eight nursing students, as well as allegations of financial mismanagement and poor treatment of students within the institution.

In its statement, the group urged the university to address the issues raised rather than victimise the individual who reported them, and called on trade unions, civil society organisations, and the Oyo State government to intervene.

At the time of reporting, no official response from the LAUTECH management had been publicly released regarding the allegations.

NEWS UPDATE
Body-Worn Cameras Introduced to Protect Nurses in UK Hospitals

Four hospitals in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, have begun introducing body-worn cameras for clinical staff as part of efforts to reduce violence and abuse against healthcare workers.

The initiative, announced by the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust, will see staff in hospitals located in Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, and Salford equipped with the devices. The move follows a successful trial conducted last year at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury.

According to hospital authorities, the cameras will only be activated when a staff member feels threatened, and the patient or visitor involved will be informed before recording begins.

Julie Newton, Lead Nurse in the Emergency Department at Fairfield Hospital, described the initiative as an important step toward improving safety for both staff and patients.

She noted that incidents of aggression and violence unfortunately occur in healthcare settings, and the cameras provide an objective record of events that can support investigations and ensure situations are handled appropriately.

Hospital management also stated that footage captured by the cameras may be used to support investigations and assist law enforcement when necessary, helping to deter future incidents.
Suzanne Robinson, Deputy CEO of the Northern Care Alliance, emphasized that abuse of healthcare staff is unacceptable and that protecting frontline workers is a top priority.

Security officials added that the initiative aims to ensure emergency healthcare workers can perform their duties without fear of intimidation, assault, or harassment.

The hospitals implementing the program include:
• Royal Oldham Hospital
• Rochdale Infirmary
• Salford Royal Hospital
• Fairfield General Hospital

Healthcare authorities believe the cameras will contribute to creating a safer and more respectful environment in hospitals, allowing nurses and other clinical staff to focus on delivering quality patient care.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS — Wisconsin Nurse Sentenced for Improper Patient Relationship

A nurse in Wisconsin has been sentenced to prison after being convicted for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a patient under her care. The case, which was tried in a U.S. court, highlighted the serious legal and ethical consequences when healthcare professionals violate boundaries with patients.

According to official court records, the nurse’s actions constituted both professional misconduct and criminal behaviour, resulting in a prison sentence and possible loss of professional license.

Healthcare regulatory and licensing boards maintain strict ethical guidelines that prohibit personal relationships with current patients, in order to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold trust in the profession.

This development serves as an important reminder of professional standards in nursing practice worldwide.
