•••WMD 2026•••
Today, we joined the global community to mark World Malaria Day 2026, observed every 25th of April to raise awareness and strengthen efforts toward eliminating malaria. It was first established by the World Health Assembly in the year 2007.
This year’s campaign message is:
“Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”
This is a strong call to action, reminding us that:
✓ We already have the tools
✓ We already have the knowledge
✓ What we need now is urgent action and commitment
Malaria remains a major public health problem, especially in Nigeria:
✓ It affects millions of people every year
✓ Children under 5 and pregnant women are most at risk
✓ Many deaths are preventable with simple interventions
As health care workers, we should be concerned about:
1. Health Education
✓ Creating awareness about malaria prevention
✓ Teaching proper use of insecticide-treated nets
2. Testing and Early Diagnosis
✓Encouraging everyone to test before treatment
3. Treatment Services
✓ Prompt and complete treatment using recommended drugs
4. Environmental Sanitation
✓ Clearing stagnant water
✓ Keeping surroundings clean to prevent mosquito breeding
5. Community Mobilization
✓ Engaging leaders, households, and youths in malaria control
What We Must Do:
✓ Sleep under insecticide-treated nets every night
✓ Seek medical care early when symptoms appear
✓ Avoid self-medication
✓ Keep our environment clean
Malaria is preventable and treatable.
If we all play our part; government, health workers, and communities
A malaria-free FCT Abuja is possible.
Let us act now, because:
Now we can. Now we must.
